Oh good, winter time and a tape thread, this should be a good one to watch. Oh and Biker395, this is one of the regular flame starters where if you don't agree with a method suggested you are stupid, dumb and your mother dresses you funny. We all know how important tape installation is to world peace and winning the TdF, much more so than bike fit or training. Enjoy.

Since I change tape twice a year on 7 bikes, I put the least expensive cork tape I can find. And, Stapfam, sometimes that ends up being Bontrager.

I have been using Lizard Skin tape and I really like it. I had Zipp tape on the bike before the Lizard Skin tape and I liked it as well. Both are thick, comfortable and washable but I have a white bike with a white saddle so ........ white tape. Both of the tapes come really clean if you are washing off dirt and grime. However, they tend to absorb and get somewhat stained by the black dye from the palms of riding gloves, if they get wet from perspiration. I did find that using stain removers, like Shout and OxiClean, seem to get most of the staining out far better than household cleaners like 409 and Fantastik.

Ought to answer after 28 replies but still not chosen th tape yet. Lizards skins sound a favourite so might give it a try.

And what has happened? Bar tape may not have as many followers as Brooks or Bents but the thread hasn't caused any arguments yet. Perhaps it is the wrong time of the year or nd of the winter and everyone is looking forward to the ride season.

I still like using gel pads but they can be tricky to position. Easy to wrap them forward and have the gel padding shift to where they aren't even useful.

Lately I use lime green on all my bikes and am still trying different brands. Haven't found any I hate.

But these pads (pic below) I do hate. Once installed and wrapped, they are impossible to remove.

I am fully bent now since 2005. However on my last road DF I dumped the tape and went to rubber foam on the handle bars. It was far better as far as I was concerned. I dont even know if it is still available since it is a moot point for me.
