A day at the beach!!

This morning dawned crisp and bright with the promise of a glorious day ahead. Looks like a great day for the beach!!

A couple of hearty souls on 29'ers have arrived at the beach ahead of us...

Today was the annual Polar Plunge, a charity event to help support the Special Olimpics. Our little 17" dusting of snow wasn't enough to put a chill on the event. Some 2000+ swimmers plunged into the icy waters of Lake Ontario for the worthy cause. The air was a balmy 20F and the water a bit warmer I guess.

Here is the Torch bearer for the Special Olympians at the water's edge....

Followed by several waves of the more than 2000 participants...

I drove my bride down to the lake and we appreciated all the merriment in dry, toasty warm clothes. Though I did not share in the splashing about I am quite proud of the dedication and support that our community shows for this cause year after year.

For folks like my wife and I who choose not to swim, there is always the option of a nice romantic carriage ride...

Unlike our neighbors to the east, we were fortunate and did not catch the full brunt of the blizzard Nemo. My thoughts and prayers are with those of you who are currently struggling with the aftermath of that terrible storm.

Very cool.

That phrase seems a bit understated.

My son participates in a similar event in Chi-town. He has a high pain threshold, but he's only good for about 15 seconds or so.

Anyway, excellent pics.

Saw the thread title and was absolutely sure there would be no pics or text about people in the lake.
How wrong I was.

That ZZ-Topish looking guy with the straw hat and the one piece is a hoot. There is something right with a world that can embrace that. :thumb:

I always said there was something "Wrong" with the Americans. All those people at the beach and not one Sandcastle:rolleyes:

Oh, not too much exposed sand to build sandcastles - but I'd wager there were a few snowcastles or other sculptures...

I am disappointed that nobody seemed to be sunbathing on the beach... :)

I have alway suspected a certain percentage of people are just a little weird, and those pictures prove it!!!:)

You mean in addition to driving on the wrong side of the road, and spelling various words the wrong way?

But in this instance, you are very correct.
