I sat out most of June and all of July ( lucky for you guys). Thankfully, I read that the 90*F temps are all behind us Seattle area residents. Prayers for all being threatened by wildfires. Re-read post #1 and this Sticky is supposed to be about chit-chat. I’m not good at social chit-chat, but here’s my cycling version. Got the pictured bike worked over by some real pro’s at a C&V gathering. Wheels and drivetrain dialed-in to the millimeter. Supposed to be about like a pepperoncini… if so, Jalapeños are 5 to 16x hotter on the Scoville heat scale and these habaneros could up to 160x hotter than than.

Comments welcome. i may edit this post more than a couple of times. The purpose of the post is to help me understand the handling characteristics of a particular bike. An early 70s Zeus brazed in Erbil, Spain - deep in the Basque region. Look at attached pics and tell me if you think this fork curvature is different from most on a (vintage lightweight) sport/racing bike. And would it yield a more 'touring' feel in the front end steering? Or is it just a French (+Basque) design? Would the unknown (to me) fork material be responsible for perceived ride(main tubes are 531)? Or should I just ride a wider range of bicycles and not obsess over any outliers. These days most of us are not looking for trail higher than 60, rather for lower.
The hard part in all this is to measure the offset. How did you get the offset? Yojimg did not have a database of fork offsets in his utility. |

Interestingly, staying with 25s but having a head tube angle of 72.4° also is a trail of 61. So I'm just reckoning that keeping a 25 on the rear and putting a 28 on the front would be something like 28s all around with a head tube angle of 72.4° ... resulting in a trail of 62. Whatever it may be, I like the idea of more rather than less trail as I have a higher seat because the bike has shorter cranks and elevated handlebars with aerobars and it seems like the higher trail should give a more stable ride in the aero position. In any event, I don't seem to have any handling problems. |
Winter cross training. The PNW got lucky with some dry, rideable days in January. So many, in fact, I went for a hike in the neighborhood, instead of a 5th consecutive day of riding. Just returned from looking at a new car. Man, don't ever try to just take a look at a new car on the last day of the month.:eek: Apparently they didn't believe me when I said just want to try not buy. I felt a little violated. I hate the high pressure sales b.s. The up side being that I realized my current ride, a 2011 forester, works just fine thank you. Just add a bit of oil now and then and we're good to go.

It's a new year. Thought I'd stop in at our Pub, empty for 10 months, but not boarded up..
I'm guilty of drinking less in 2019. Isn't the Pub the place where we exaggerate our prior successes and likewise our future exploits? 2019 was a great year and I hope to ride a bicycle on Mars in the future. Cheers. And a good new year to all who enter here. |
