spotted (and heard) near the GAP Ohiopyle trailhead ( note the familiar bridge over the Yough river ) did a double-take when I heard the 2 stroke ring-ding-ding … and there it was - RGV 500 … very rare - especially in the US as they did not import them into the US I’m a 2 stroke nut sorta / kinda - almost purchased a new RZ350 BITD … then after I passed on that opportunity looked at getting a RZ500 (which was not imported to the US) sorta kick myself for not pulling the trigger - but I might not be here to type this if I had gone that way … :) … eventually I did get a little Ninja 250 (‘ninjette’) - my one and only street bike (among many dirt bikes) Oh what a nice find! I went to the Grand Prix race in Jerez Spain in 2001, when they were still using 125cc, 250cc, and 500cc two-strokes. I'll never forget the sounds of each race - 125cc a pack of angry gnats, 250cc a pack of angry bees, 500cc a pack of murderous hornets! My last year of doing track days, I had a Honda RS125 - probably around ~29hp but only 160#. An amazing little machine that I really learned about corner speed on. Years later, I rode a number of Zero electric motorcycles, and one of their tricks was that you can adjust the amount of regen that you'd get when rolling off the throttle, from a full regen (which felt like a big v-twin) to no regen (which felt like a two-stroke). |

Aww shucks. Thanks! Do you live in the area? Must be nice to live so close to the GAP. What a gem!
yes - live fairly close to the GAP - little over an hour away from the Laurel Mountains / Ohiopyle section of the GAP (live closer to the northern parts of the GAP but we typically start rides around the Ohiopyle area) for sure the GAP is a gem - riding the GAP is adventure … no wonder people from all over the world travel to ride the GAP I recall the RS125 - employee at nearby shop had/raced one in the 90’s - really really cool bike …would have loved to have a US street legal version … at one point I was semi interested in an Aprilia RS80 (?) an employee at another nearby shop had |
