Defunct Airlines
I got to thinking about airlines and wondered what happened to Texas International. So I did a search on the internet and hit on this wonderful blog listing many of the now defunct airlines with a note about what happened to the airline and a photo. Enjoy!

Back on bikes. It seems odd to me that when a brand is established, why they cant stay in business. They have a supply network and brand name that people know. Yet they seem to go out of business, maybe due to bad management. Then another brand comes along and all of a sudden you see people riding bikes with a name on them they you have never heard before. They of course have to start up, get a supply network, advertise, and all the things they have to do to get their bikes out there.

My first car was a 1964 Dodge Dart with the slant six and pushbutton tranny. I actually still have dreams where I still own that car, it was a nice red convertable that I got for $300.00, kind of a lot for a high school kid back in around 72 or so. Dodge just brought back the Dart, so I guess that brand just was resting for a bit.

Can't seem to find a number of bicycle components that really hot in the 90's when everyone was buying cool CNC made parts in the many anodised colors.
Critical Racing - canti's brakes
Machine Tech - hubs and Zero Flex canti brakes
Topline - cranks
Cook Bros - RSR cranks, CBR cranks,
Kooka - Kooka Kranks, Kooka Billet Stem,
Grafton - Mag-lite canti brakes, Joystix mtn cranks, Speed Case ti BB, Speedtrap mtn pedals, Speedlite road pedals
Paul Components - Love Levers, Stoplight canti brakes,
Race Face - LP mtn cranks,
OnZa - HO clipless pedals,
Klein - Mission Control handlebar/stem,
Gorilla - rear derailleur
Some frame manufacturers also disappeared.

My grandmother always went to the gulf station in town because even in the 90's they still pumped the gas for only a penny or two more than the self service stations. When she was killed within a week that station closed, hopefully not connected.
Gold bond stamps
B & W stamps
Kreskies
Is Piggly Wiggly still around?
We had an old style A&W with the frozen mugs until the 90's too.
We used to have a Montgomery Wards catalog store in town, some stuff on hand but could place orders there and get fast delivery.
Gibson's department store
Harrison's 5 and 10
Just about any town with any size around here had a Yelland & Hanes Office supply
Most of the places I think of were little mom and pop stores that the owners retired or just couldn't compete with the big box stores.

If anyone mentioned TG&Y I missed it. My dear mother in law worked as a keypunch operator for them until they closed.

Maybe I missed it but I didn't see:

Lemond bikes

Italvega and Univega
I used to own a somewhat lower end Italvega (My first decent road bike) And a Univega Gran Rally just like the one above but with a dark blue suede seat and blue cotton bar wrap. Put a lot of miles on that Gran Rally.

Gambles and Coast to Coast hardware stores where Dad bought a Coronado radio. It would run off a 6v battery or 110.
