For RAT, my wife's sister and her husband have a cottage in Central Lake which is just south of Charlevoix, and we're staying with them for the weekend.

We haven't set a time yet, but y'all are welcome to join us! We'll probably be keeping things down in the 11-12 mph average speed range. I'll ping the rest of the gang and let you know what our plans are.

For teh OHR, we drive over from Ann Arbor, but we usually start between 8 and 9. Very flexible. I know the roads pretty well - if we want to extend the 39 route to 50 or so, I know some good ways to do that.

Looks like our plan is to get to the fairgrounds about 8:30. I'll give you a call when we arrive so we can connect.

EIGHT THIRTY?!!! Are there parking spaces left by then? I usually try to get there around 7:15 so I'm registered and ready to fly at around 8.

I'll be on my highracer again this year. I think all of my buddies will be running full fairings and bodies; so I'll be the only one running unfaired. So if anybody sees a fast-looking carbon recumbent, c'mon over and say "Hi!"
The low snake that my buddy has ridden in years past has been replaced (in his heart) by his white submarine. He also loves the attention that he and the bike get on big rides like OHR. I may yet coax him back out though; he's promised that when I get my lowracer running again he may ride his just so we can be more evenly-matched.

Today was a great day for a ride. Temp got into the mid 80s with clear skies and a light NE breeze. I saw FreedomRider at the lunch stop, and SteveSawyer at the last one. I finished with a 20.5 mph average, which is better than I'd expected considering the slow start I've gotten off to this year.
Now, it's 50+ nap time!

Sorry I missed you, BP, Steve, and Freedomrider. We got out on the bikes around 9:30 finally, rode the 39, and finished about 2:30. We averaged about 12.5 or 13 (max speed about 25) until after the Grass Lake stop, then fatigue and saddle issues began to settle in. Sad to say I didn't see any of you. I assume Steve left well before we finished.
But a great day, I climbed a lot better than I thought I would, and found I still really like to ride my Mondonico. According to Mrs. Road Fan, I go a lot faster on it than I do on my 650b - odd! But my pedaling still doesn't feel natural on the 650b, also odd.

Yah - couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. Really nice route with almost continuous rolling hills. Very well organized with great food and music at all the stops. Managed an avg of 14.1 over the 39 despite only getting on the bike twice since my metric in June (damn job and skunky weather)!
RoadFan - sorry, didn't get your VM until I was headed home, just before 2:00.
I can attest once more to the fact that an ice cold beer is the perfect post-ride restorative. My lovely sister packed a cooler with ice and Corona's, bless her heart.

OOOOOOhhhhhh! I had a funny feeling I was missing something really nice!
But I have to say, my dear wife did take me to Panera's for a birthday smoothie right after the ride! Even better, I remembered to eat my Clif before it.
But I am sorry we didn't connect.
I ended up doing a lot of on-road saddle tweaking. I had just installed a B17N Imperial that was sitting around, and tried to optimize it on the fly. But I made it too tall and too nose-up. I have to get a 2 bolt seat post on that bike. Still, the riding was great.

Just a teeny bit closer to home, I will be doing the WOW! ride out of Mason. You'll have better roads, though. Ingham County has possibly the worst roads in the state. I've seen worse roads, but Ingham's average is worse. I much prefer to ride in any of the adjacent counties.

I'm hoping to get an early start as I'm staying about 30 minutes away near Central Lake.

Still learning
Surprised at the lack of vintage at OHR, other than ours, a maroon Pug Mixte and my 1986 Trek 520 Cirrus. Really the nicest day of weather all month.
