Racer Medium from Paul Component Engineering

113 grams. I don't know if that is light or heavy. I didn't choose them for their weight.

I'm interested to know why you're going with U brakes on a new build. Not disparaging the choice, just curious.
Edit:Thanks to the link provided by John below, I see it is not actually a U brake. Interesting.

They are not U brakes. They are centerpull brakes, their design based on classic Mafac Racers. I wanted my bike to be able to run 32mm tires with fenders and I didn't want to go with discs on this bike. Since the frame is being built near here in Augusta, GA, I decided to go for as much made in USA content as practical. Thomson seatpost and stem (Macon, GA), White Industries crankset and hubs (CA), Cane Creek 110 headset (NC), Velocity rims (FL), Wheelsmith spokes (WI). The rest of the drivetrain and the saddle come from Italy.
I have always admired Paul Components (CA) and these fit the theme of this bike perfectly.

Yes, I see that now. I'm sure it will be an awesome build when completed.

Nothing exotic, a 2009 Fuji Absolute 1.0 with a Jeff Jones Loop H Bar for most riding on the left. On the right is a Dahon Mu P8 that now has a Nuvinci rear hub for commuting on trains since the Chicago area Metra Rail system only allows folders on peak hour trains.

Sounds like quite a nice, practical build, BD. I'll be waiting for your post about the finished product, here. those Paul centerpull brakes look nice, much better than I expected after reading about them, elsewhere. They look loke they will be strong stoppers, much like I remember the MAFAC originals, back in the day.

Here is my 1975 Viscount, which I've converted to a fixed gear. It's light and spritely. Great for bopping around the city.

I'd call them U-Brakes, too. The general shape is there and they use U-Brake mounts on the frame. Although a traditional U-Brake wouldn't curve up at the end of the arm. Maybe they'll call these "pi brakes."

I'm 54, but I don't feel TOO old (well, depends on the day…). All I'm riding these days is my 2014 Kona Unit. Singlespeed mtb'ing is making me feel younger, no doubt...

BP, I believe when both arms are installed in those direct mount bosses, and the stradle cable is in place, they will look much like the original MAFAC center-pull brakes. Several Shimano and some one off smaller mfgrs. are using direst mount for both side pull and center pull brake sets. But, you are close in seeing the resemblance to some U-Brake models, too.

Are you using the TRP blended hydraulic and cable brakes on your low rider?

You can call it what you want. I call it messin' with the kid. (apologies to Junior Wells)

FWIW, from the Paul site: "It is important to note that the Braze-On Racer Medium does not mount to brake bosses in the standard cantilever position, and it will not work with U-brake bosses. Please refer to our support article on Braze-On Centerpull Brakes for more information."

No, they're the Spyre, all-mechanical. I agree, form-wise, those Pauls look like my (very) old Weinmann centerpulls.

My latest love. Never saw myself on a Pinarello, but this frame turned up for a stupid price, couldn't even ride/test it, but not a single regret.

That Paul will be nice looking, I always liked the MAFAC brake sets, the old time LBS here that I hung around as a teenager carried Gitane and some of their models had them, used to drool on the various bikes there, finally got my Bottecchia from them in spring of 72.

BP, good 'nuff, that is always so swoopy looking, it reminds me of a stealth fighter.
