I love Bob Jackson's but that design is crap. They should be ashamed of themselves for putting that out to a consumer. In many/almost all instances you can get away with just using the canti's but if one was at speed and they exclusively used that centerpull hard, the leverage on that extension, over time, will cause it to fatigue and crack at/near the attachment of the fork. It is a cool looking bike though.*

*of course...........it's a Jackson

Put new tires and a rack on today. I don't see fenders in its future though.

You should not have posted a picture of that bike. I currently have a pair of yellow skinny tires hanging in the garage, now I think I “need” to find a road bike to go with them.

Nice looking bike.

GRAIL ALERT! What a sweet bike.

If you don't want to run fenders, but don't want to risk the dreaded "skunk stripe", you might try one of these:

A custom rack deck that I ordered from Woody's Fenders, it blocks all the road-muck from flying up and decorating my back. You have to drill it and mount it with P-clamps to fit your particular rack. But I think it really adds a touch of class.

Is that an 8 speed crankset you're running with Veloce 10 speed? Do they play well together?

Looks sharp! I will check that out, thanks. The Bridgestone was basically unridden, it was my Dad's. I still have the original gumwall knobbies but don't need them so just have them in the back of the garage.

I'm pretty sure it's a nine-speed crankset, and yes, it's Veloce ten-speed. They work fine. Well, I have had a problem where shifting down will sometimes toss the chain too far to the left. Not sure what causes that. That hasn't happened on the new frame yet, but I've only ridden it four miles so far.

Today this wonderful old French bike took its maiden run after being built up over the winter from a frame that was last used as a fixed gear many years before. The 53 year old bike whizzed down the road like it had wings on its Super Champion rims with Pelissier Professional hubs and new Michelins. The 1965 Dilecta Le Blanc is still 12 years younger than I.

I have seen some newer models of racing trikes (after mid 90s) where you can mount V-brakes to canti-style mounts directly on the backside of the fork blades since the cable comes in from the side instead of coming down from the top like a regular centerpull or canti.

..... just wondering why you (@browngw) chose stem shifters over downtube. But no matter, it's all good - a beauty.

There are lots of reasons I chose stem shifters for this bike but the main reason is I simply like them.

I used 70s Suntour derailleurs and I had no Suntour DT shifters or bar ends available therefore it seemed logical to use Suntour stem shifters from the bin.

They were free.

They are more "aero" (no wind tunnel testing, yet)

I'm thankful people are enjoying seeing the old Dilecta but while out riding today I was shocked to see the front wheel on backwards. The first thought that came to mind was "did I post it on BF like that"! (yes)
My biggest gratification is the superb ride and feel. Todays riding buddy traded his carbon bike for a spell and commented how lively and fun the ride was. That's when you know a build is successful.
Cheers all. Now I have to go flip that front wheel around.

I'm 55, pretty new to the forum but not to cycling. I've owned quite a few bikes over the years, had nearly 20 at one time. But it got a little tiresome storing and maintaining all of them, and some really great bikes just weren't getting ridden enough so I did a lot of downsizing. Right now I have three mtbs and 3 roadish bikes. And one on the way, so to speak!

I am a little bi-polar in my preferences-I like my moutain bikes pretty cutting edge for the most part, and my road bikes pretty traditional. (I don't race on either, never have, never wanted to)

This is my oldest bike-it's beautiful and rides great, suits me very well for mainly-paved riding. It also has considerable sentimental value and I'll probably never part with it. 1999 Rivendell Rambouillet:

My current gravel bike will likely soon be replaced (it will be sold or repurposed) I have a Jamis Escapade coming that I hope will b a bit more modern (disc brakes!) and versatile. Me and my Rivendell-inspired, custom-made Quiring 650 all-road:

My commuter/townie is a Kogswell PR. It's a solid, front load biased, tour-ey sort of thing. It or the Quiring will likely be sold once I add the Jamis:

From oldest to newest, my mountain bikes. First, my first cusom-made bike, a 650b-wheeled Curtlo Softail. I had it made when 27.5" was still 650b and was so new there just weren't many options around besides custom. I got it in 2009

I've ridden mostly full suspension bikes since I first got into trail riding, starting with my 1996 Profles 756. This is my latest and best, a Santa Cruz 5010. Also, my first ever carbon bike:

And my most recent bike, an Otso Voytek Fatbike-this replaced my first fatty, a 1st generation Salsa Mukluk that I got in 2011.

Heh, well cool! My first 650b bike was a Saluki from the first batch they made. I liked the idea right away and jumped right in! Most of my bikes since have sported the same wheel diameter...

Just finished getting this "barn find" road ready (new tubes and tires, brake pads, bartape and quite a bit of grease) for my twelve-year-old daughter. She just took it for a test ride and I'm very pleased to say that it passed muster.
