I opted for my 1974 Motobecane Grand Touring on Saturday. That old steel frame paired with 27x1.25 tires just floats along. Very smooth ride.

Picked up a Giant Anyroad Advanced 1 on the 5th and am really loving it. It was a gift to myself for reaching a major weight loss goal. I did swap out the tubeless tires for a set of folding Paselas to help dampen the buzz of the chip sealed roads I end up spending most of my time on. I do see myself rotating my vintage steel bikes every once in a while but at least for now the Anyroad is getting all the miles.

New bike - base model Specialized Allez

Well, with my recent new life adjustment as I had a biking sutuation that caused me to go down a path of recovery for my back, I am getting a new bike. I was looking for something with a little more upright position, but not a cruiser, better gears for the hills in southern Indiana, light weight, and with some form of reducing the beating from rough roads. I was initially thinking to go with a full suspension MTB with slicks, till a friend told me about the Trek Madone. So I began to investigate new bikes with a "sort-of" suspension. The two I focused on, as they are available from local reputable/reliable shops, was the Trek Madone, and the Specialized Roubaix. I ended up working with the Specialized dealer and he built up a Roubaix Sport and added the Cobble Gobbler seat post and an 11-40 rear cassette. I really liked the mechanical Future Shock on the head tube along with the other bump smoothing designs of the bike. We ride a lot of gravel, and chip/seal roads that wear on my hands and arms, and all the pot holes and rough patches take a toll on my back. I feel this bike will be the best to smoothe out the bumps and give me the capability to ride more miles with my back issues. They just got it built up for me this week, I need to go pay for it and wait for my rehab to get me to the point of riding again......Can't wait!

@abramj, are you in physical therapy? I had an L5S1 (which is what I think you mean) discectomy, but I think PT and walking can effectively treat many of those injuries.

It has been an issue with degenerated disks in my lower back for over 25 years. Had a rough young life of doing stupid things to my back... But for this injury, I was racing my daughter while riding my cross bike, hit a slick section on the rail trail we were on and the bike took a sideways slide, then corrected. The correction almost tossed me off the bike, and "tweaked" my back by pinching the nerves at the (yes, you are right, I fat fingered the numbers...) L5S1. First stage was to see the chiropractor, who is a friend and bike rider, who ended up going down the wrong road by accident and injuring the area more to the point I couldn't walk. So I had an epidural at the L5S1 and started a different course of rehab. I'm in much better shape, have done some stationary bike, but mostly still walking and strengthening my right leg, which still has some loss of use from the pinched nerve damage. (biggest issue now is the loss of feeling in my right big toe. Really kills my ability to balance on my right foot. And I'm almost relearning how to walk correctly.)

Thanks for the correction, and yes, therapy is the way to go. I had planned to do a century ride with a couple friends in September, but now, I'm hoping to maybe do the last 25 miles with them.

My S-Works Roubaix gets a shower.




My Lynskey R240 was next in line.


These two are my survivors after downsizing the herd . Love 'em both and my favorite is the one I'm riding at any given time. I've put 4,000+ miles on the Lynskey and about 2,500 on the Roubaix since spring 2016. Originally, the Lynskey was setup with Ultegra 6800 and after building the Roubaix from a bare frame last year when I retired, I decided to put the same DA9100 setup on the Lynskey. The 6800 setup ended up on a Lysnkey R-150 that I built up for my retired brother. Both bikes have Mavic Kyserium Pro SL Exalith wheels that I am really happy with. About 4,000 miles on the two sets. Great braking and with proper adjustment, the Exalith "screech" is negotiated to a comfortable buzz. My bikes are much higher quality than I am - and, not being an elitist or anything like that, I appreciate that the quality.

Wore out the Campy Record that was on the bike when new, so replaced with DA 9100. Vector 2 pedals and new Qurano 46 tubeless wheels. Have a Cervelo S3 or order, they are clearing out the '17 frames. This frame is a little too big for me so going down one size.

Yes, the new bike does not have the same logos. Probably since Cervelo was sold to Pon.
