N+1 For The Last Time Again

With the weather so bad this spring there is really only one thing to do.... no not that..... Build the next N+1 is what I mean. When this nifty LeMond frame came on eBay at a decent price resistance was futile. Frame is the same size as another in my fleet so I knew it would be a good fit. And so it began.

At least I moved the components from another bike in the mothball fleet to economize on the build! Here she is as ridden today.

Well... In truth, did buy new stem and zero setback seatpost from Williams. And I have a Prologo saddle on order to add to the experiment.

Only the triple crankset and mtb rear derailleur give me away for the poser I am. :D

I know the mirror adds a nerdy uncool touch.... but I like having it.

This bike rides like a dream and fits great. It is uber light.... A good rider could make it go pretty fast.

She looks like a rocket poised to take off. Quite a looker.

Sweet! Another Lemond to add to the stable. How does it ride compared to the others? When do you anticipate mostly using this one?

Very nice build Don, well done sir, well done.

Looks sweet. What year is the frame? I don't recall seeing one before.

Good looking bike! Did you put that gearing on it for specific rides or are all your bikes geared that way? Taking it to the Dolomites?

Slightly off topic but who else, besides me, when they read the title thought " N+1 for the last time, Ya, Shhuurre, Get real"? Nice ride.

Nice build by the way. Did the tape get that dirty in just one ride?

rumrunn6 04-25-13 01:38 PM

really sharp looking ride!

She came from somewhere in Virginia, FYI, so perhaps you have seen her before. The seller seemed like a serious rider. I do not usually name my bikes, but I'm calling her "Red Rocket".

Ride is somewhat firm with very quick steering... moreso than I've been used to since I've been on my longer wheelbase cross bike a lot lately. Especially firm ride with the Mavic wheelset. Very responsive to input. See next answer for more.

She's 2008 vintage, the last of the CF LeMonds.... or any LeMonds for that matter. Frame is the "Triomphe Ultimate", which is the lightest, most expensive of the LeMond Min-Max CF frames. The rear section seems a little stiffer and more beefy than the regular Min-Max frames. You can see slight differences in the frame design if you look carefully. There aren't too many of these around I don't think.

Correct. This is the bike that's going to Italy this summer. Granny ring is 28 tooth and I'll probably take an 11-34 cassette along. There appear to be some pretty steep sections in some of the places I'm going. I can climb most anything around here (it is NOT as flat as you think) in 39 x 30 or 32 at most, but when I need easier gears I really need them. I know my limits.

:) Not OT at all. You took my meaning correctly, my friend.

I think you're smart with the gearing choice. My brother spent a month riding in the Dolomites and said some passes were very steep. Better to go with too much gearing than not enough.

I have a 34 on the rear and it sure comes in handy at times. It'll be on my next bike too unless I get a flatland bike.

Good looking ride Don, have fun.
