Glorious Sunday Afternoon

My wife wanted to get her Townie out for a cruise this afternoon. Given that she had not been on it in several weeks I was thinking we might ride 10 miles. My goal for today was 20 miles and I was counting on riding the difference this evening. My wife is walker so she is in decent shape and when we got 5 miles out she was read for more, 7.5 miles still more, 10.5 miles out we start for home. We got within 1.5 miles of the house and my wife decides she want to take a trip through the nature park. We got 23 miles in at 10 mph. While this was not my preferred speed ti was still a great afternoon.

FYI - One of my wife's favorite restaurants is across the the street from my LBS so, about 12 miles one way, we talked about making a date to ride to the LBS next Saturday so the wife can get her basket for the Townie and have lunch at the restaurant. Easily worth giving up my golf game for the day.

This sounds like the beginning of a wonderful relationship, to paraphrase Bogie in Casablanca.

Congrats! 23 miles is a long way on a Townie.

Nice report! Good effort by the wife.

But giving up a game of golf, that has to be love!

What sort of bike were you riding? Because she probably had a far, far better workout than you did.

My rides with my wife are typically at a slower pace than I would ride if by myself. And some times that is the point. It's nice to just cruise along, enjoying the ride. Stop for lunch, or at some shops, etc.. It makes for an enjoyable, relaxing day. We do have one rule, we each go up hills at our own pace, I wait at the top(even though she tells me I don't have to, I know better). If I want to go and ride my legs off, she'll ride her own ride.

It's easy! You just put your feet on the pedals and... roll... :)
