Just a lazy ride
I'd taken the day off for some routine medical attention. Life got in the way and kept me off the bike for the last week, so after sleeping off the last of the sedation and noticing that it had turned into a beautiful day, I gave into temptation and headed out. I wore just shorts & sandals - the only concession to biking "kit" was helmet and gloves. No Strava, no computer.
Ended up just cruising around the local subdivisions for about 90 minutes. I'd be surprised if I went over 15mph.
Wow, was that nice.
My brother calls this a "smell the roses" ride. I need to do these more often.

My wife and I fight to try to do that. Every ride seems to be a training ride, pushing hard. Sometimes we'll consciously try to back off and ride easy but we both seem to enjoy hard efforts. Thanks for the reminder. When I get back to riding I'm going to have to start easy so I'll try to remember there is more to riding than hard training rides.

That is best kind of cycling there is. A large percentage of my riding is done that way.

Yep, best kind of cycling there is! Life's too short to be rushing about all the time - you need those 'smell-the-roses' rides once in a while just to experience the joy of life - to recharge the soul!

Lawnscape ogling is one of my favorite bicycling activities! There are any number of households where the lawn could be mistaken for a Botanical Garden. Along with the wind whispering in the trees and the birdsong, cruising the suburban landscape can be quite rewarding.

I also really like to ride thru the older parts of town and look at the huge beautiful old homes built about 1900 or before.
I worked for the same Co for 47 years and did a lot of rushing. Now is the time to just cruise.

Now you just need a bicycle tire over your shoulder and a wine bottle holder on the cross tube and you're officially a real cyclist! I agree we need to participate in this leisurely side of the sport more often.
