What are tire liners? Not rim strips right?

Al, I had a Road Morph fail (after 3 - 4 years of carrying it on the bike) a couple of years ago. I decided to start carrying CO2 last fall. I had a flat at then end of an aggressive club ride, and came to the idea it would be nice to not have to pump up the tire. I bought a small CO2 applicator from REI, but I still carry a Road Morph.

Looking at the Road Morph, I realize it is still usable, the threads are not stripped.

Here is what is wrong: When the pump blew apart, I put the pieces back in such a way that the cylinder was blocked from screwing all the way down. That is, that small disk-shaped part was replaced with the three hole side down. If instead I fit that properly to the end of the cylinder, all is OK. I can screw it in hard, and it stays.

I assume that vibration caused the cylinder go gradually unscrew, leading to the "explosion." I still don't have confidence in the Road Morph.

So, if you have a road morph, periodically check that the cylinder is screwed in all the way.

Unscrew it again, apply some nail polish to the threads and quickly do it up again. The nail polish acts as a thread locker, but is much cheaper.

This is all I use. It's simple, bullet proof, and will hold pressure on a partialy used cartridge for sometimes weeks. It, and three or for cartridges is about the weight of a frame pump, and fits easily in my seat bag with two spare tubes. Though it is hard to Cinzano someone with it.

Used to know them as "Mr Tuffies". They've been around a long time but aren't used by roadies that I'm aware of. They create a certain amount of friction inside the tire that translates into rolling resistance. At least that's what I've read but I couldn't tell you how significant that is even though I rode with them briefly back when. I wasn't riding with fast people then. I can tell you that you can still get flats from goatheads or the like that roll up into the side of your tire.....so You'd still better carry a pump (or C02), spare, patches and spoons anyway.

They are great for kids bikes for sure.

OK I just bought one. I still have the silca frame pump for Cinzano tricks. Hope you're enjoying that San Diego weather....I miss it some.

I'm impressed with all of these things. Tried out the CO2 inflator, and it works as advertised. They've even designed it so that if you invert the cartridge, it fits (because there's a hole at the bottom of the case).

The pump is rugged. Sitting in my seat pack, and functioning only as a backup, it should last a lifetime.

The pump, inflator, and one cartridge weigh 163 grams versus 227 grams for the road morph + frame mount.

I finally got a quikstik to see if it would work with my 700x23 tires, and it does. Should save some time.
