I'm buying a dozen jerseys next time!
I'm down in San Diego on vacation, and brought along my bike. I've gotten two nice rides in - the "great western loop" on Sunday, and a climb up to Mt. Palomar today. On both rides I have had the 50+ kit on. On Sunday I wore the jacket and today I wore the jersey. On both days I had groups of young, noticeably attractive females wave and say hello. Is there some secret code that is attracting this attention, a pheromone?

50+ = "safe flirting because it's EEEEWWWWWWWWWW to go for" in the minds of most young hotties. MAJOR suck for those of us 50+'ers who still see through 30-y-o eyes, if you know what I mean....

If you look at their hands carefully you will see many smart phone cameras, these are taking pictures that will appear in Facebook and YouTube with snarky, cute, hipster captions about "That old guy trying to look good on a bicycle."

No doubt about that. I work at a large university and I've definitely noticed the flirting level has increased as I've aged. Older men appreciate youth and being not really in the market, tend to find all young women attractive. We don't look through the jaundiced eyes of a younger male who is actively in the dating scene, so we don't see 'imperfections.' Younger women like to flirt with older guys because the response is always positive. It increases with age as well. A member of my regular foursome on the golf course is now in his 80s and the beer cart cuties at the golf course fawn over him like you wouldn't believe. He enjoys the attention.

As my grandfather would say, “At my age, I’m just happy to be noticed at all. It means I’m still here.”

I've had different reactions to the 50+ jersey. Probably my favorite was (from a 30 something male), "If I were over 50 I sure as heck wouldn't want to advertise it!"
Although one young (well, okay 40+) hottie in the club asked, "What old man did you steal that jersey from?" No sure how to take that one . . .
And another rider who was "Very familiar with bikeforums.net" but who didn't know there was a 50+ forum. All kinds of fun!

I couldn't quite bring myself to order a jersey. Maybe I haven't yet really embraced my membership in the 50+ club (turned 50 in March). Now I am regretting that hesitation. Next year, I'll order a jersey and await the flood of young hotties.

Lost Again
A few years ago, I was trying to impress some young ladies at an amusement park, and a friend called me aside and said forget it Dave, at our age we are invisible to them.

If only that were literally true. Discretion prohibits me from telling the world what kind of deviltry I would indulge in if I were truly invisible ... especially with the young attractive woman demographic.

I have, on occasion, 'glanced' at a young woman (my wife refers to it as 'leering'). Then I think: "She's at that awkward age; too young to be my daughter, too old to be my granddaughter". That usually brings me back to reality with a thud!

As you get older, I've heard that men look at young girls/ladies and wonder if their moms are hot.
I don't leer. I admire very discreetly, but only admire. No desire to stray for me as I have the best girl in my own bed now--for 30+ years now.

I wonder what percentage of regular people realize that it means you are over age 50? There is a route 50 that goes across the country:

...my problem is I need a '60+' jersey, going by your theories that means I'd get even more attention...
