Just Got To Tell Someone

I don't want to come as bragging but, on 7/4 I did my first 50 mile ride. Today I was off at 5:30 not really knowing how many miles I was going to ride. Well I can say that I rode my age today, 58, plus 2. I never dreamed when I started cycling 3.5 months ago that I could ride 60 miles.

Great job!
I managed to do 40 for the first time since my "intermedullary nailing of the tibia" last Oct. on Wed.
Previous best for the year was 22? I'm quite pleased, since it was breezy. Head winds really knock me down because of my emphysema.

Now the only problem is that your regular 15-20 mile rides will seem awfully short.

You'll get back and think, "I was just getting warmed up".

Congrats Planemaker ! how much have you been riding in those 3.5 months? I'd like to use you as a example to some non-riding friends of mine.

100k is next, then 100 miles then 200k. But first, enjoy some 50 mile rides. There really is no limit.

I really think my success is reading this forum and taking the advice offered. The most important piece of advice was just get out and ride. I got the bike in March and rode 37.1 miles in march, accepted a challenge in the Clyde forum to ride 100 miles in April (actually did 185), road 400 miles in May and 500 in June.

Excellent! Next thing you are going to report going 60 miles at one ride or same distance faster. It happens.

Look out for the looks on people's faces and their comments when they ask: "Out riding, eh?" "Yep, good day for it". "Where did you ride?" "Oh, just around. I've done about 30 miles so far today and have another 20 or so to get home". Priceless.

Have to agree but not another Madone. It's good to have different bikes with different ride qualities
