I just can't fathom people doing this to a cyclists. They are chancing or trying to cause extreme bodily harm--car vs cyclist, we know which will come out the more damaged. If done on purpose, a charge of Assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder should be the charge. I bet they would get an attempted murder charge if they did this to a cop on a bike.

Maybe not ... I don't want to be too "aggressive."

How anyone can be thought to be "aggressive" with a device that simply collects photons is beyond me. :wtf:

I think he started to shake. I doubt he will ever threaten another cyclist.

Your lucky, he didn't pull out a Dirty Harry sized revolver and give you an express ride to meeting your maker.....

He may not have known what you were talking about. He may be such a poor and/or self-centered driver that he truly doesn't know what he did was wrong. Probably a good idea to gently and with much circumspection call the driver's attention to what he did. But, to approach his legally sacred space with threatening manner and voice could escalate beyond what you are prepared to cope with.

Lots of aggressive driving that puts other vehicles in danger. Some of it is designed to set the "victim" up for injury, death or lawsuit. Best not fall into that trap. Others, like the person in the beat up pickup truck that cut me off while I was driving home from dinner tonight just drive that way. Sooner or later they will have a problem. Best to try to avoid them.

yeah, it's always a judgement call for sure. in my case it was obviously deliberate because I could see his eyes in his mirrors the whole time and both hands were on the wheel, he was in complete control of his vehicle. he thought I should either be off the road or in the gutter. he did not want to share the road. he wanted to threaten me. he invited a confrontation / conversation. when I am all jacked up on adrenaline, caffeine and simple carbs you don't want to threaten my life. in the fight or flight scenario I will react. in my case he was a sitting duck trapped in traffic in front of our police station. he was a nerd who felt anonymous and protected and privileged. I believe in that case I made the right choice. it's rare to catch up to a driver like that. it's rare to see their eyes so clearly. it's rare that a threatening driver is a geek. usually they are young males in mustangs, jeeps or pickups. if windows are smoked out you have to decide if you want to have the possibility of someone losing it, leaving their vehicle, perhaps with a weapon, or chasing you with their vehicle. also are there witnesses present, etc. I'm 54 and been in enough confrontations to know when to hold'm and when to show'm if you know what I mean. my urban high school was the best learning experience for most of that.

Now that statue of limitations is up.... 35+ years ago ,I was young, dumb and I would chase down any motorist that dared to piss me off. I was living in Atlanta and commuting to/from work everyday. At this one busy intersection (14th and Peachtree) each day I would move over into the left turn lane to make a left on my route home. One afternoon I cut over to the left turn lane and this doosh comes roaring up behind me from 1/2 a block away laying on his horn just as the arrow turns green. He passes me on the left yelling obscenities and gives me the one finger salute I stand on the pedals and grab my crotch as a counter gesture. Not having the means to counter my counter-gesture, He jambs on his brakes and I hit his bumper . I regain control as he takes off through traffic, I am now chasing him and every time I get close to catching him the traffic thins and he gets away again. After a ~two mile chase he finally gets stuck in traffic at a long traffic light. Seeing me coming up rapidly behind him He quickly closes his windows and locks his doors. Unfortunately for him, he didn't get the sun roof closed before I dove on top of his roof and began trying to pull him up through the sunroof by his hair with one hand while pounding on his face with the other. This probably lasted less than a minute before a very large man who was waiting for a bus and LHAO at the whole spectacle pulled me off the car roof and told me to ride off before the cops showed up.

It's not a moment in my history that I am especially proud of today. But it sure felt good at the time!

I've "taught" two drivers lessons over the years and the older I get, the stupider I feel about it.

Both drivers were clearly in the wrong - aggressively tailgating me/honking and then passing very closely at a high rate of speed on a section of road where parked cars force me to take the lane for a couple of blocks. I caught up with both drivers at the next stoplight, with steam coming out of my ears. The first one was talking on his cellphone and when I pulled up to the passenger side window to have a "discussion" about his driving (his windows were closed) and he just flipped me the bird. I f-bombed him, reached over and flipped his windshield wiper into the "up" position and rode off. He was going to have to exit the car to put it back down and it was raining at the time. The second one I rode up next to and unloaded on his driver side window from my water bottle which was full of sport drink.

It sure felt good at the time, but the more I reflect on my actions the more I regret the position I put myself into. Now when the occasional jerk gives me grief when riding, I bite my tongue and keep my middle finger rolled into the fist I shake at them.

I never stop in the center of the road to turn left. If I can't make the turn without stopping, I go to the right and wait, crossing the entire road when all's clear.
