Idea for a t-shirt for geezer cyclists
 

I was poking around the internet and found a traffic sign design site. I wondered if there is any interest in a t-shirt (for those who have no money left after equipping their bike). It's tailored for my specific age, but the number can be changed for you 'kids.'

Make that a jersey and I might get one. T-shirts are for wearing on casual outings. Jerseys are for cycling.

At 70 my jersey will say " My wife thinks I'm playing checkers"

Kewl - I've been looking for a customizable highway sign site and haven't been able to find one. I've found speed limit signs, street signs, parking signs etc., but none which feature route or interstate signs. Where did you find it? It would be easy to transfer a .jpg to a T-shirt. (OMG have I been sartorially incorrect all these decades riding my bike in T-shirts???)

I'm not going to reach "geezer"hood - well, likely never. I like to think of myself (and others to think of me) in different terms and enjoy fooling myself!!

And, yes, many times I wear a t shirt when bicycling, sometimes a jersey, sometimes a sleeveless dri fit. To me, there is no uniform for bicycling.

I would possibly be interested in a T Shirt, however, for 70 plus.

Bluntly, I put the "G" word for age and infirmity in the same category as the "N" word for race and ethnicity. I find it insulting, nasty and discriminating. I am not, nor do I know anyone who deserves the description posed by that word.

It is one of those words that at one time was humorous. That time is past, way past.

At what age does geezerhood start? Or is that a mental thing as opposed to a chronological thing?

I don't disagree, but, like the N word, it seems to make a difference on who's using it. I don't care of anyone on this forum aims it at me, but I'd be a bit taken aback if some 20 y/o on the 41 called me one.

Recently I almost referred to a person 25 years my senior as "spry", which I think is the worst of them all. For penance I listened to an hour of "The Best of Barry Manilow".

You are, of course, entitled to have your opinion about it. I use it deprecatingly (in a humorous sense) about myself and will continue to. If it offends you I understand, then you might want to avoid my threads and posts.

FIFY. I'm not a big fan of cotton shirts for outdoor wear, especially if any exertion will be involved. Wet cotton is uncomfortable in all four seasons.

Now, if the shirts are in a wicking quick-dry synthetic, then that'd be something different.

T-shirts are for wiping chains ...

There is a world of difference between the G and N words.

The N word is used, by some, in reference to a specific race.

The G word is used, again by some, in referemce to a general category of people--people of a "certain" age.

Everyone will eventually become a geezer, assuming they live long enough.

Not everyone will become a black person.

To me, that's the biggest difference.

"Age Limit 70" ??? That suggests attaining ages of 71 or more should be prohibited. Can't really say I'm with that one.

Makes sense. I'll poke around. C'mon guys lighten up; I'm even older than seventy. :) The signs I found were on a design site. If I could I would put 70+ but it wouldn't permit it as the sign is intended for other purposes

As for wiping chains, sorry but I have one I bought from the Beijing Hard Rock from 1995 with a panda bear on it. None of the fancy shmancy jersies I've see on the web stores holds a candle to it.:p

Let's face it when any term is made to deprecate a person or people it reflects directly on the person making the remark. It suggests someone who personally doubts their own self-worth and degrades others to boost their self-esteem. In Chicago in my neighborhood "Polack" and "Dagos" were used to degrade the Polish and Italians. Different words...same ignorant hurtful intent.

But this is about t-shirts, let's not hijack it for social issues.

I really like this. Now, how to display it attractively on a jersey?

My thought is that there is a LOT of ageism out there - I have it happen to me - "Why don't you get in line in front of me, 'Young man'" and on and on. Lowered expectations of performance, rocking chair images, words such as doddering, geezer, old fart, elderly, etc.

If I don't want others using those words and having those attitudes (and I don't), then I should set the example.

People, people... what's with this G and N word thing. Let's say the word outloud... GEEZER... don't deny it, embrace it! I do! It's gives me an excuse for everything... for instance calling one of those youngsters out in P & R, my excuse is I'm a geezer and I can add "get off my lawn"! I love every discount, freebie, cut in line being a geezer entitles me to. I would proudly wear GEEZER across my chest as I are one and proud of it!:thumb:

And I think some people are taking this thread too seriously... no one is trying to use derogatory, racial slurs here - I believe most people were just being sarcastic and funny. Again we are old... I'm proud of it; we all should be!

Denver I like nothing better than grinding up a steep gnarly dirt trail and passing some young guy, walking his bike, and I saying "didn't think you would get passed by your grandma today did ya?" If someone wants to give me cuts in line because I am old, I take it. Nice thing about age is I have learned not to care what others think and to everyday give youngster pause to think "good grief how does that old woman do that?" "It's skill son, that and experience..."

I'm still riding in cotton T shirts until I finish working on this belly. (It's getting there) Then I wear one of my jerseys.

Used to be able to get shirts with the Red Zinger Classic logo but I never did at the time. If I could find a good one in large I'd probably ride in it.
