Bike Stand
 

Since my new road bike won't have a kickstand can you guys recommend a good stand to use while the bike is in my garage.

FYI - I was thinking of buying a repair stand that way I could put the bike on the stand when not in use and I will obviously have a repair stand as well.

I got a good bike work stand for my work area in the garage. I found an R.A.D. model for $40 on eBay, a closeout. It is similar to the $160 plus Park Tool I lusted after, I find it totally relaible. There is a section of the Cycling area at eBay just for work stands. the Park is the gold standard to me, I still want to save up and get the PCS-10 some day.

Repair stand would be my choice. Ours is suppose to be bolted to a bench top but we clamp it in a vise on the bench.

I have a stand but it takes up a lot of room with a bike on it
I use two rubber coated hooks and hang mine from the ceiling against the wall out of the way
I have too much stuff in my garage to leave a bike on the stand all the time

I use this one got it on sale at my lbs it folds up and has its own bag to store it

I find walls do very well. But if you want it off the floor, well that's a different kettle of fish.

I use an Ultimate Sports BRS-50R (http://bicycleaccessories.guidestobu...a_close_button ) = Link to a similar unit. I searched on-line and found it and it was less expensive than the Park model. I hang my bike off it by the seat like the shops do, so you don't need to clamp it for every use, but when I need to, it's nice to have a real stand to support the bike so you can work on it. Pretty adjustable, so you can fit it in a small area.

If you've got plenty of floor space, and want to have a work stand as well, you could do something like this:

I used to keep my bikes in my garage but when we lived in Houston my best bike was stolen. Then later he came back for the helmet. Then there is the dust and dirt daubers and spiders. My bikes stay in the house now. In my basement shop I have a few hooks in the ceiling and a bike works stand. I also went to Northern Tool and got the two bike Gravity Stand which will hold a road bike and a MTB (ATB) nicely.

But, the bike that I ride the most, grab and go, it stays in the living room leaned against the stair rail.

Let me guess, your single, right? If I wanted to store a bike in the living room, the missus would veto that idea.

As for bikes getting stolen, lock them up, even inside the garage, I keep mine locked. Even better in the garage you can use a heavy duty lock that you wouldn't dream of using on the road. Like a length of security chain, and a high end pad lock.

Nope, sorry, married for 33 years. She keeps hers in the dinning room.

Nope, no locking in the garage, for the reasons mentioned. I grab my bike and roll right out the front door, no need to unlock, clean off the spiders and bugs and dirt dauber nests. BTW, where I live now there is about as much likelihood of theft as a meteor hitting me while riding.

I have the Park PCS-10 which is great but I more often use a Harbor Freight bike pulley system that I paid about 8 dollars for. I raise the bike up to what ever height I need to be able to work on it comfortably. When I am done I just hoist it up and it is out of the way and I can walk under it without hitting my head. I use the PCS-10 when I need to do something that is going to take more time and is a bit more involved. I like the pulley system because I can keep adjusting the height to exactly what is comfortable to work on. Yesterday I installed the SKS long race blade fenders where the L brackets fit into the front and back brake system. I was nice to set the pulleys so that I could be just at the right height to see what I was doing. Yes I could have done it with the PCS-10 also but this just seems easier. As I said I do use the PCS-10 when I am doing something that is going to take more time or requires more stability. Midnight Shadow

Aside from a small balance issue with my big, heavy beast, it's been faultless.

But for storage, I'd lean toward the Spin Doctor.

Another negative here Wogster, my wife lets me keep my CAAD10 in the living room, too:thumb:. It is kept clean after my rides and doesn't mark up the walls, bookcases or furniture, especially no stains:notamused: on brand new carpeting. She says it has made so much difference in my health, both physical and mental:twitchy:, that it can stay in there between rides. Service and maintenance are in the garage/shop, of course. I do move it to the shop when we have company over, don't want to reflect on her sanity:rolleyes:, the neighbors know I am nvts:innocent:.

BTW, I have a very special, wonderful wife, IMHO. Your bride has her reasons, I am sure and, I won't question them ever.

+1 and I have been really, really pleased with it. In fact it allows me to not only store the bike, but also clean the bike, clean and lube the chain, etc.

Same here on Feedback Sports stand. I have one for each of my two road bikes.

We have 2 of the Evo bike stands. They are awesome!

I have this as I am rarely in one place for long and it is portable. I even have used it in my SUV.

I use the Park PCS-10 repair stand. Works on my recumbents. Folds up nicely to take up very little space.

I think if we end up in a place with a mud room, then the bikes could end up living there, if there is a garage or shed, that's fine, right now they are outside under a tarp, we will hopefully be moving before winter, and should end up with a better parking spot then.... The road bike will end up inside, on a trainer for the winter, but that's usually in the basement.
