stuffing road vehicles and anything else

Hi,

Couple of recent posts on the subject, but at 50+ it doesn't happen too often.

A few weeks back :

Very strong tailwind on a flat road with with regularly spaced speed bumps,
with a kerb gap that bikes can use not to slow down. Hit 28 mph on that
stretch of the route and passed everything going, including 3 vehicles.

Doing 25 mph+ behind a car at 50+ I'm sure confuses the
driver, but they have no idea about the wind conditions.

At 50+ chasing and then passing cars / vans on the speed bumps was fun.

rgds, sreten.

Hi,

I can't see your point, there is something to overtaking a car, for
whatever reasons, and nothing at all to do with overtaking a 12
year old on a crap bike, which of course is a complete given.

Aw heck. Whilst riding my bent I went up a hill and passed two roadies riding full crabon. I sensed their humiliation. It felt like a dumptruck full of awesome.

Hi,

The usual complaint is the the USA doesn't get British irony.
Here I'm missing something and its probably assuming irony.

It relates to a thread I just posted about my passing a 12 year old boy.

Sorry for the confusion.

And congratulations again on your "car stuffing" success - BTW, the term "stuffing" used in this context is something new to me.

Hi,

As I get older the idiosyncrasies of the English language I use become more apparent.
I've no idea where the British common expression "get stuffed" came from, but in this
context it means I guess "I showed him/her/them" related to the above expression.

"Eat My Shorts" would have been a great sticker on the back of my butt at the time.

Several years ago on my road bike on a 4 lane down hill with a strong wind I was up over 40mph and passed a couple of cars in the left lane. The look on their faces was interesting to say the least.

Reminds me of a time on a local hill where I was flying down the hill on my mountain bike and had a guy in a Porsche 911 behind me. He had to slow down for speed bumps and chicanes, and I didn't. Which meant that I could get to ~30mph and hold it all the way down the hill, and he couldn't get up enough speed to overtake me before he had to slow down for the next chicane. My riding buddy for the day was behind the Porsche (going only slightly slower) and said that by the bottom of the hill the driver was obviously agitated at not being able to get past the mountain bike, despite the fact I was going at (or maybe slightly over) the speed limit.

Certainly when I got to the bottom of the hill and the end of the chicanes the Porsche flew past.

Hi,

Downhill doesn't surprise drivers too much.
25 mph+ on the flat does.

They also can't work out the combination of a good tailwind
and slipstreaming their vehicle allows you to go really fast.
Well obviously some can, but generally not.

rgds, sreten.

I'm not sure I want the drivers that I'm on the road with to be confused.

Are you saying that they are extra confused because they look in the rear view mirror, and notice that you are over 50 years old?

Hi,

They probably notice I'm no spring chicken, and not your typical lycra clad serious ccclist.
