Is my LBS geezer friendly? Well that all
http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m...v2/depends.jpg Bwahahaahaaaa. Seriously, I'm mostly notable to them for the amount of miles I ride, not my age. |

Two season store. Bikes in summer, snow sports in winter. I understand the logic but they weren’t pure LBS in my opinion. The sales person was a part owner, a bit closer to my age and seemed genuinely interested in walking me through what had changed in the last 30 years and what would be most suitable for my needs. My many questions were answered and I was treated like an adult. I didn’t buy the bike he suggested but he certainly didn’t object when I chose an upgraded version of the same model. I’ve been back for service and to correct a small problem and was warmly greeted both times. I've bought several accessories there and am now thinking about buying a second bike next year.
So is your LBS older-rider friendly? |
Interesting thread. There are so many bike shops in my town that I'm a bit ashamed to admit I haven't even visited all of them. I guess the biggest one around here is a local chain (3 shops, I think) and carries Trek. They've always been polite, and we've bought a couple bikes and a tag-along from them over the years. The next biggest shop is the Specialized dealer -- they were very helpful when my wife bought a cruiser bike, and they helped her find a better fitting saddle. There's another shop that does used mostly used bikes, and one that does mostly fixies -- I bought my commuter bike there. We went to one recently that is a coffee shop in the morning, a bar at night, and has a service dept. in back. They made a pretty good latte. We did go all the way to Denver to get the tandem -- even in bike crazy places tandems can be rare. My N+1 bike is coming from a startup in town that is building bamboo and aluminum frames. Can't say I've even had any issues with any of them.

I haven't really found a LBS that's particularly friendly. Whether it's because I'm in the over 50/Clyde club or if they're just not friendly to anyone.
i usually end up at REI because it's close and you can return anything there any time. |
