Coolest Cycling Event Logo Ever
Each year Lexington, NC holds a Barbeque festival that pulls in thousands of people. The area is renowned for it's pork barbeque.....lots of small bbq restaurants in town that serve pork bbq, bbq beans, slaw and hush puppies. Pork shoulders are smoked overnight until the meat is fall off the bone tender and moist. Sauces are all family secrets and vary from restaurant to restaurant.
The inaugural event each year is the Tour de Pig. It is one of my favorite events of the riding season, it's towards the end of the year so I'm generally in decent riding shape. The longest route is only 62 miles and it's flat----only 2200' of climbing. It's not a race but just a fun event to socialize and ride with others. It's cheap. Plus they give you a great bbq lunch afterwards and a free Tshirt.
I love the logo on the Tshirts and it is one of the few cycling Tshirts I actually keep and wear. I've gotten tons of comments about the Tshirts and logos over the years, especially when I'm out of town on cycling tours. I was very disappointed when I went to the ride today and found out they had changed the logo......Sometimes change is good but in my opinion they needed to stay with the past theme!
Perfect weather for today's ride. Temps 70-78 all day with minor winds. I was worried about even riding 62 miles as I hadn't been on a bike in 2 weeks. My son had a leg injury at his work which put him in the hospital the past week. I wound up sleeping in the hospital room with him every night and averaged 4 hours sleep a night (along with constant interruptions) on the recliner beside his bed. We got him home and he's doing okay now but frankly I was exhausted. I managed to hang with the local pros for 20 miles where we averaged about 24 mph. My heart rate was out the roof though with the lack of rest and no riding. Three of us sat up at that point and cruised the remaining miles together and finished with a 20.5 mph average.
So what do you think about the logos?
The one with the Pig riding a bike is so unique!! They do it with vivid colors and really stands out on Tshirts.

Sounds like a great event! Let me know when it is scheduled for next year and I'll do my best to reserve the date.
If I am able to come next year, I sure hope they come to their senses and go back to the pig on a bike theme.

B-b-but..
Except ... for the problem that they are on Opposite coasts, W stations are east of the Mississippi river , K stations in the western states.
sponsorship where they get no benefit from that, is rather a commercial non-starter.

So you EAT the pig, dressed in kit, who rides a wrong sized bike? The logo makes no sense, but I'm sure the event is fun

A 20.5 mph average speed for a metric century is very good! I would need the better part of an additional hour to complete it.
