Dead Body Found ...

On a road that I ride most of my long rides on. The Police are ruling the death as suspicious and is more than likely a homicide that occurred at another location and the body was dumped.

This particular road is very popular for cyclists because the traffic is light and asphalt is in excellent shape.

Probably what also makes it popular with hit men.

I recall a charity ride at a blind, 4-way stop rural intersection in the middle of cornfields, a rider had been hit, the highway patrol had just arrived, his bike was horribly bent, and his cleats were still lying in the road. The patrol had thrown a plastic tarp over the body. Hit and run, I don't believe they ever found the driver. It was the most subdued, grim ride I can recall... and people were noticably slower and more cautious. A lot of anger at the unknown driver.

It's not much help if no-one is around in tragic cases like this, but in general, hit and run drivers might be more easily identified if license plates were legible from more than 20 feet. In most other countries they can be easily read from 25 yards!

it would be good to share the location because this is pretty creepy. don't worry, the gangstas aren't going to look you up for sharing but you'd be helping fellow cyclists know more about their surroundings

The body of a drug dealer was dumped in the "Las Vegas Desert" (imagine that) beside a trail that I mountain bike on. That happened in 2009. The family erected a small shrine with Solar powered lights and the flowers are changed regularly to this day. It just goes to show that everyone has someone who loves them and is burdened by their death.

Many years ago, I read the following and the impression it made on me lasts to this day:

"No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee." John Donne

The death of any human being diminishes us all. Your story is proof that even the vilest of humans have those who love them.

^^^Well spoken SFC! (Can I call you Sarge?) I originally thought critically about the situation. And I hate drugs and pushers. But people are still just people and behind every person is a story that I don't know. Thank you for the John Donne quote.
