Birthday Present

My family gave me some money for my 50th birthday a few weeks ago so I did some online shopping last week and just received my gifts. I'm sure hoping these Brooks are as good as the reviews I've read. I put 1000 miles on the stock seat on my hybrid and cant take it no more. Since the bike is hung up for the winter, I guess I will wait til spring to try these things out. I think this B17 Imperial is one classy looking saddle!

+1 on hoping the Brooks works for you. Remember, everything I've read states you have a break in period before it's comfortable. But, what do I know--never owned a Brooks.

I think I'd try that Brooks out long before spring IF you have a return policy available on it. I tried a Brooks B17 Imperial and really liked it for short rides of around 10 to 12 miles. However, after a couple of thirty milers where I couldn't sit down comfortably for four days afterwards, I sent it back. Went with a Selle Royal with Royalgel and that works much better for me. YMMV...

I've been interested in how that particular saddle. I have a Selle Anatomica Titanico (leather with slit down the middle) and love it for all day rides. A ride report after you've got some miles on it would be welcomed.

I knew when I saw the title of this string that there was a chance that I'd be jealous and I was right.

Hope that Brooks works out for you. I know a lot of riders that love them and wouldn't trade them for any other saddle on the market. I also tried a Brooks B17 when I started having pain issues with the OEM saddle that came on my Colnago. I realized that there was a break-in period for a Brooks, but after a while it hurt more than the OEM saddle did. I guess not everyone is build for a Brooks saddle.

Well, You guys are right, I cant wait til spring to try this seat out. It is suppose to be 50 degrees tomorrow, so I will give it a 25 mile test. Initial test ride just down the street feels very promising! Will report back tomorrow. BTW, it only took 1 beer to install!

Proper setup and the luck of having a "Brooks butt" are bigger factors than the semi-mythical break-in period. Brooks saddles do get softer and more comfortable as they conform to your anatomy, but I think more is written about breaking in a Brooks by people who have not ridden them than by those of us who have.

I think you'll enjoy the Imperial saddle, just take the "break in period" (I agree with BD, mine never needed any time to be comfortable for me) as part of the necessary steps to get things sorted out. Follow the instructions for its up-keep and it will be a long lasting item for you. Proofide, or whichever treatment you choose, is a good idea to protect your present but don't get carried away with its application. Stay away from the adjustment wrench until the saddle actually needs to be adjusted from slackening leather, you can ruin them very fast with the wrench and too much Proofide. That is a very nice looking saddle you chose, well done sir, well done. I am seriously contemplating finding a Swallow for my bike, I miss my Brooks equipment.

Great! I've got 4 bikes with Brooks on them, one of them I've had since I was 14 and I'm 57 now. Still comfortable.

I have the Selle Anatomica Titanico like NOS88 as well, on my fixed gear bike, and have found it super comfortable, even for centuries (the longest rides I've done on my fixed) and your Brooks should be similarly comfortable (very similar design).
