How many ride all winter?
 

Just curious about the 50+ riders. I commute to work but on weekends I try to get a club ride in. I don't like to ride distance by myself as I am seldom motivated to do so. I am on winter number seven for commuting in the state of Misouri, or "Missourah" as we say it here. I'm North of Kansas City so get a bit of snow covered roads. SOOO! How many ride in COLD ? All winter?

So far so good in IA; we'll see how I feel about this come Jan. or Feb.! But I plan on riding as long as there isn't too much ice on the roads.

I usually keep riding through the winter. Last winter, I didn't get much riding in due to my father'e illness and death.
Plan to get back on track this year. The studded tires will be going on the winter bike soon.

Not necessarily COLD near Atlanta GA but sure, all winter.

I commute, so I ride pretty much all winter. I'm leaving tomorrow to burn off three vacation days on the road. The forecast is for sunshine and freezing temps this week. It gets dark at 4:00, so I intend to be safely ensconced in a hotel bar by then.

I haven't missed a day bike commuting since July 2006. Today is my 201st commute of 2013, and my 1,592nd consecutive workday bike commuting.

Yep, all winter. However we don't ride when the roads are icy. That's usually only about 2 weekends a year around here.

I do, but not a lot. Took my first trainer spin this AM.

Sure. I'll even tough it out when the daytime highs are barely over 50 degrees. I draw the line at rain, however.

Definitely ride all winter, just go slower and sometimes longer. I will do cold and I will do rainy, but I will not do cold and rainy. If it's a cold and blustery day, I might hit the local trails for the protection of the trees and work on some technical mountain biking.

Yes, cycling fights cabin fever and helps to preserves my fitness during the winter.

I'll keep a set of Schwalble Marathon Winters studded tires mounted on this Origin8 monstercross bike. I'll also have a set of Schwalble Marathon Cyclocross tires on a second set of wheels for days when the pavement is mostly dry.

Yes, riding through the winter season, not as unfortunate as many others as we are in NW Florida. No bottom limit for temps, just as I don't have a summer time top end limit.

When I was younger and lived in a snowy area I would ride until they started salting the roads. I lived in an apartment and could not wash off salt well and my bike was my only transportation so I wouldn't risk it

Now I'm more like rdtompki...I might ride in the 40's but only if I'm pretty sure its going to warm up during the ride. In my defense (other than I've moved to a warmer climate and therefore am less hardy) I do only ride in shorts

Yes, all winter but "the conditions" aren't brutal like August.:D
It's a good time to get fixed-gear miles in when wind conditions permit.

Yes but I only ride my road bike on the trainer in the garage. I prefer MTB in winter months.

I will ride all winter if I can find enough rides, have to push myself to ride alone.

Last winter I got pretty fit then lost it all this summer :(

A big ride planned on the road in January so need to get in shape as they are all roadies and I only have my big tank of an MTB.

Tho they did say they will be easy on me lol :)

I generally stay off the bike for a few days after we get the first real winter weather - snow, sleet, freezing rain .. that sort of thing.

It seems to take the good citizens a few days to remember how to drive ( assuming they knew how in the first place) in the rough weather or to get their rear ends to the tire store to ge their snow tires mounted.

I am no less likely to be in an accident in the car, just less likely to be killed.

Forecast for this week is temps down to -18 / -20 *C range - so I think I will drive this week and get back at it next week.

May I ask where do you live?

I ride all winter ... but it ain't cold ... unless you think low temps in the 40s is cold.

South central British Columbia, in a mountain valley.

Generally the weather is pretty temperate through the winter but we usually get a week or two of an arctic front coming through.

Usually one is right around now and this year it is coinciding with wet weather from the coast so we are getting snow and sleet. The roads are a mess and people are still driving like it's mid-August.

I think by the end of the week they will start getting it.

And here it will be -4 and the land is panicking lol :)

No doubt everyone else will get snow but us as we are sheltered by the Pennines and in a valley as well.

We usually get the cold and rain, tho suppose should be grateful lol :)

I try to ride all winter. Like many others here, most of my rides are early-AM before the sun rises. Over the years I have adopted a 25 deg F limit. Anything less and I sleep in for an extra two hours.
