My (new to me) ride!

So a buddy of mine is selling his 2011 Cervelo P2, 54 CM. At 5'11" the Competitive Cyclist fit calculator puts me in to 56, cm but this fit like a glove. It was smooth, responsive, and light. It weighs in at 18.5 lbs decked out to ride, compared to my 58 cm Fuji Aloha 1.0 at 21.5 lbs with the same set up.

The top tube is more important on modern bikes than the seat tube. I just read that Mark Cavendish is getting a smaller bike just because he likes how it feels.

For flying in the bike portion of your triathlons, I bet.

Have fun.

Nice bike, Bob, hope your Tri's are successful for you. Are you just doing the triathlons or are you going to attempt some Time Trialing, also?

That is slick. And, pretty too. Congrats. FWIW back in the day when I was 5'10+" I rode a 54 and it was perfect.

just perfect-especially for where you live. I also have a P2C and it is a really nice ride. Based on my experience and riding on the aero bars a lot more the 54 should be a good fit for you. Is the grouppo SRAM? I think mine came with SRAM but converted everything to DuraAce. I also would up replacing the bars with some Vision Tech carbon bars.

Part of bike fit is frame geometry. I ride an upright angled Specialized 54 cm and a more laid back Rivendell 57cm. I'm 67.5" tall, short waisted but with long, ape-like arms, I'm more comfortable on the 57cm. Top tube really is more critical that seat tube... and likewise stem and handlebar ramp length.

BTW......very slick frame. Makes my elderly heart rate bounce a bit just looking at it!

Thanks for all the kind words, affirmation and encouragement. and qcpmsame, no plans for TT's, just training and Tri's.

jppe, it's a dura-ace/ultegra mix. very smooth, and tt bikes on flat courses like FLA don't really benefit much from lighter components. Money better spent on better/disk wheels and/or a TT/Tri helmet. But now that i'm semi-retired, I think the best I can hope for is a nice rear wheel disk cover.

I have a Fuji Aloha 1.0 which I built up from the bare frame. But at 58 cm I had to put a 60 mm stem on to fit it. It is a very satisfying bike, but a bit heavy at 21 lbs ride weight. I've got that up on ebay, craigs list, and some local sites. Problem is, not too many people need a bike that big.
The Fuji:

The P2 weighs in at 18 lbs ready to ride. I don't know what if any small advantage that might provide on a flat course. We'll see if it makes any difference in my 19.5 mph ave speed on the 56 mi course in this years IM Augusta HIM. That's got some mild climbs, but nothing that precludes a Tri bike.

Best of luck then, Bob, that is a beautiful bicycle. What is the young ironman up to these days?

IM Tyler is doing well, Thank you! He is struggling a bit in school, probably due to Chemo - brain. Also, when he was going thru chemo we didn't push him school work wise.

He also has 25%hearing loss in the high end, so he has to wear hearing aids at school.
But he is a great kid, and a blessing to everyone he meets.
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

Here's a picture from when Nana and Papa brought Tyler and Brayden to deliver the toys collected by Tyler's Toy Box (www.tylerstoybox.org) a foundation created by Tyler to provide toys to kids in the hospital during the holidays.

If it feels right and comfortable thats all that really matters. Bikes are like shoes, the fit may vary by style, manufacturer etc, its not a one size proposition, go with what you feel as you ride it. Sweet bike by the way. What kind of price if I may ask?

Heh. I'm 5' 10". My daily ride is a 56cm carbon Tarmac. It's perfect. My current project is the restoration of a 1980 Nishiki, 49cm frame. I've raised the bars slightly, raised the seat post slightly, and moved the seat back a bit . . . and it's perfect. DB

No toe overlap on that 49? I, too, could ride a 56 and I've often thought it would be a really good size for me. But, back in the day I was going with the "smallest frame you can ride" theory I read about in the Greg LeMond book. Recently I did that Competetive Cyclist on-line fit chart and it put me on a 56 or 57 frame. I don't think that's optimal at all. This Tues I'm going for a fitting at a shop recommended to me by a friend & ex-racer who works in the business.
