Over 50 addiction thread?

I think a running Addiction-like thread here is a good idea. It would make life for the mods a bit easier. Heck, I think most of the mods are over 50 anyway, so they might even post on it themselves.

I think we have permission to do so.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but "Addiction" doesn't do it for me. I'd suggest these, but it won't hurt my feelings if you come up with something better:

Miscellany

Get off my lawn. Seriously.

Semi-automatic poultry (a nod to Thump55)

Just sayin'

I'd recommend the thread be a floating one instead of a sticky. I'd also recommend it be locked and renewed periodically to keep it fresh.

And everyone would have to promise to be really really nice.

If we blow this off, I think there will be no reason to fuss about having threads moved in the future. It is a chance to be proactive here.

Any thoughts?

Addiction thread?

Rick@OCRR 05-14-14 10:33 AM

As in: Why we are addicted to cycling? How we became addicted to cycling? How happy we are to be addicted to cycling? Or (perish the thought), How we can free ourselves from our addiction to cycling?

Or all of the above (and more)?

Rick / OCRR

I was thinkin as addicted to being over 50? Course don't have much choice.

the addiction thread in Road was originally about Pcad's Scott Addict bicycle. Weird how these things work out

I can give up cookies anytime. Really. At least I think so. Never actually tried it, though.

nuke_diver 05-14-14 02:52 PM

I'm not addicted to cycling...no really I go days without any :D

Playing guitar I'm addicted to. I'm no better at it than I am at cycling but I have trouble going a day without playing something

decotriumph 05-14-14 03:50 PM

So... is this the thread or are we just picking a name?

Dudelsack 05-14-14 03:56 PM

We can pick a name.

We can pick a nose.

But we can't pick...

shelbyfv 05-14-14 05:25 PM

Somehow the point of this has eluded me.

10 Wheels 05-14-14 05:28 PM

Just Post in PCad's thread if you Ride a road bike.

So we're supposed to have a point? The point is that there is no point.

PCad over at the roadie forum started a thread which became a stream of consciousness epic which is going on three years.

Given the tight-knit ness of the group, if you don't possess high entertainment value you might go unnoticed.

There are a lot of things that merit quick mention but aren't worthy of their own thread. There are also things not really relevant to cycling but are harmless enough if they stay self-contained. That's what the Addiction thread is for.

We also need to be able to fire off a rant with reasonable assurance that it won't start a fist fight. The one who initiated this forum loved to rant, and I enjoyed them right up until humorless folks would start to nitpick and argue with him. It may have been what drove him off.

CBad Rider thought a free form thread was a good idea. It was named Pub51. Pubs seem like great places to rant and hold forth. It was a good idea but the alkeehol theme was problematic and the thread was underutilized.

We can start a free form thread, or we can whine every time one of our free form topics gets shipped off to Foo or A&S.

The choice is yours.

Moving this thread to . . . . . . . . . . . . oh wait

Nevermind. :o

I'm partial to Get Off My Lawn for a thread name, but only because Get a Colonoscopy is already taken.

About the nearest thing to a cycling addition I have is cleaning the chain. It should be 'forboten' to ride a bike with a dirty chain. :)

I mix 'em up 50/50 and melt it in the microwave for 1:30 and dip them up with these:

It ain't necessarily good for my acid reflux at night so I eat it for breakfast when I'm not riding. :)

Yes, they qualify as real. My preference is for the Old Bay seasoned Maryland type, but I like those too. Mrs. Paul need not apply.
