I think some respect came from the bike industry after discovering the 60+ crowd is among the committed, most frequent riding cyclist group. Unfortunately, the 60+ group is tighter with its money.

This may be your best piece of work on BF. I had to look up Aricept but it was a perfect selection.

My one criticism is the Jaguar. The XKE in racing green with wired wheels was, IMO, the pinnacle of Jaguar's brand and epitomized British racing tradition. Since then, they have been backsliding. My choice over the years has been Porsche. Currently, I own a 2014 Bosxter S with the wider body and updated styling - best Porsche I have owned. I have always liked Ferrari but they seem just too impractical to own and drive on a daily basis. And IMO, Ferrari is in desperate need of a body style makeover - especially the rear end.

Tesla has my eye as my next car. I am waiting for the X body so that I can use it to haul my carbon bikes around. The Tesla would definitely burnish my green image and reduce my carbon footprint.

I can tell you this. Even when you race -and win- against younger, healthier people you still won't get respect. Not a single one of the last three races I was in left me feeling I was being given any respect. While I won each race hands down none of the other racers even gave me a tip of the hat. In each case I ended up riding home without a word. I would think that the fact that I beat each of them in spite of the fact they had THREE wheels for speed....well...that should garner some respect. To add insult to injury they were all younger than I am, each probably a healthy 5 yrs old or so...and still they didn't stop to congratulate me. What is the world coming to? Rant over.

I downloaded a chess.com app on my iPad about three days ago. Really very cool. I'm not a student but just this week I picked a book on chess openings and been working on the "fried liver attack". I have no idea why it's called that. Anyway, with my hyper aggressive "let's finish this up in 15 moves or less" style, I've been feasting on other rookie players but have gotten my ass kicked by club level folk who oblige me in keeping games short

Got it. I played as a kid and have not touched a board since college. You would certainly feast on me since I am unaware of the fried liver attack. In college, I did play with a clock which I think makes the game more interesting. I am not committing to playing again but I will check out the app and I am totally bored with lube, shoes, cleats, cadence, climbing and blah blah blah. So one never knows....

I was at my coach's cycling gym tonight and when I walked in he was licking his chops and could not wait to get me on the rollers and punish me. After that, I went to my strength gym that serves as a recovery gym after a hard cycling workout. I walked down stairs to stretch and foam roll on the mats only to find the Zumba class had just let out and the mat was covered with sweaty women. The Zumba instructor was in the middle of them and they were all rolling on their butts.

I wondered who got the better deal for the evening... the Zumba ladies or my session with the Russian.

I found a spot and soon I too was rolling my ass. Maybe I will try Zumba. I bet they have an interesting Zumba forum and do not care about chain lube, full kits, rbents, roadies, Freds and whatever.

Played chess as a kid. We had no clue as to strategy. Mom read the rules to us, but they made no sense. Why is the game over when you capture the king? He's practically a pawn. We decided to play to the last man, or queen. Made it more fun.

Played a few games as an adult. Almost always get my rear stomped pretty fast.

I bet their forums have pages of discussion as to what kind of ties they should have, what color they should be, and how many bangles are needed to make the most noise while dancing.

And, I was wrong about the class. I saw the Zumba instructor and assumed it was her class but the class was a general conditioning class that she participated in. Today is Zumba. And I have not seen any jingly stuff on her or anyone else in her classes. With her choreography, anything jingly would soon become a projectile flying off the clothes.

Fashion is another matter and women seemed much more in tune with fashion than men but not always.

It amazes me how a nasty, biting fly can stay with me going 15 mph and not give up until I kill him/her. They can go 15 mph in a straight line to hang around meanwhile making all these other moves to evade my hands with the intent of feasting upon my sweet flesh. It is as if they inhabit a pocket of air around me like I was in a car. I both admire and despise them. Happily, I'd accept all ecological consequences of this species' immediate extinction. Ideally, all the dead would be fed to snowy owls, snail darters and desert tortoises.

I understand the addictive allure of the game now. On my iPad the computer matches me with someone of similar rating, and we each have 30 minutes for all moves total, guaranteeing that no game goes longer than an hour and so no suspended animation watching moss grow and that sort of stuff. In my match today I crushed my opponent and threw away my queen inadvertently which added time to the game and made time management a bit of an issue.

But I don't like slugfests. I like slice and dice and crushing my opponent, seeing him flee before me, and hearing the lamentation of the significant other.

I've never actually taken a Zumba class but I've seen them at my gym. The teachers without skirts seem to have a more aerobics-type workout. The teachers who wear the jingle skirts tend to have a bit more fun in their classes; one doesn't use recorded music and has a guy with big conga drums play for the entire class.

The instructor that we have at our gym is a latin, former pro dancer and has her own Zumba dance business but subcontracts to the gym. Her choreography is advanced which is what makes it somewhat interesting to me. It is not just another aerobics class. I have done the aerobics / step classes.

I could not find a video of her class but here is a close proxy with a little easier choreography and less latin hip action but not bad. BTW, I secretly want to go on Dancing with the Stars and do the Argentine Tango with one of the Russian female pros.
