Agreement with Mrs. Grouch
I did another tombay yesterday. Not a big deal because I'm getting kind of used to it. Mrs. Grouch told me she holds her breath every time I take my SWB recumbent out. That makes sense because I have a rather serious history of past injuries. None-the-less, resigning myself to riding only my Kettweisel trike sounds like a good way to suck all of the joy out of my life. I'm not ready to make that step.
Mrs. Grouch suggested she might be comfortable with me continuing to ride the SWB provided I agreed to walk across intersections. Not something that I want to do but it beats any alternative that I can think of. Telling you all kind of makes it feel public and official. [sigh] |
Whatever it takes to keep the wheels rolling and getting that good exercise and "fresh" air. My wife walks across every intersection, as do others. You need to find places to ride without intersections - we have miles of trails here with no intersections. Hopefully, you can find the same.
Looks like a working compromise. Good luck! |

If you fear unintended consequences in intersections, you can always do what this guy did with his Kettweisel. :)

I often find myself eschewing the left turn lane on busy roads and walking across on the pedestrian light. It might seem wimpy but I suspect I'll live (or at least live injury-free) longer.

It's amazing how wives can suck the fun right out of a good adventure.
When I'm taking the mtn bike out, I get "be careful and don't hurt yourself". The closest I get to a free pass is on the road bike and I get "be careful and have fun". |
When all else fails, lie! (or get training wheels:D)

Your restriction seems pretty easy.
I have had to make a few as well, and keeping the spousal unit happy is important for my continued cycling experience. |

In the spirit of N+1, what we have here is an opportunity to get a new bike. You could always get a lowracer, like this whippersnapper:

I can see a trike (maybe), but recumbent with training wheels with attached adult products carrier is a bit too much.

I was impressed by the number of trikes I saw during my Little Miami trip.
I've crashed once on my bent, riding on a thick gravel walking path. If I had half your experience, I would buy a Catrike and sell the other ones. We just don't bounce good. |

We visited a bike store while we were waiting out the rain in Des Moines this week. Back in the car I see that Mrs. Grouch has acquired a Catrike flyer. I don't know if that's intended for me or for her. Could be either one. |
When the wife is happy everyone is happy.

"If grandma's not happy - Run!" Uh - Mrs. Grouch fills all three roles so I try real hard to keep her happy. |
