Traffic, eh!

I'm getting a bit more trained to do this in 9 days time, a week after the Tour De France starts in northern UK.

Virgin Money Giving | Fundraising | Richard Atkinson's fundraising page

Now, this post isn't a request for sponsorship. There are other pages for that.

But, when I'm trying just to do miles and hills, and I get hit by 4 wing-mirrors, hooted at by 6 texting smoking children, and have to take to the ditches by people who can't steer to within 6 feet of their own side of the road....

It's enough to make you take to beer!

Anyhow, 120 kms and I triggered a 50 mph 'slow down' sign.

I think after this event I'm for the off road gang!

Bikes: Surly LHTD with a YAK trailer. I may have to ditch the trailer and go to panniers but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I'm fortunate to have a training route with WIDE shoulders and while the traffic is heavy I'm rarely within three feet of a moving vehicle.

See, I have this image of Great Britain where everyone rides their rod-braked roadster to work all week and, on the weekend, drives the Super 7 or Morgan to the airport to fly the Gypsy Moth. I gather that's changed.
