I, OTOH, waste my resources on cycling gear and parts. Back on track now? (You can thank me later.)

My heart attack came 12 years ago, and led me to take up cycling again. I have never had a diet which had much processed food in it, I like to cook, and have generally prepared most of my meals. I've never had a big sweet tooth, so sugar isn't one of my issues. Advice that I was given 12 years ago was less fat (I was eating a lot of red meat and fried foods), and exercise.
I have steadily increased the amount that I cycle until now I don't own a car, and ride the bike to work&back, and most errands - I average about 120 miles/week and it is rare to have a day without at least a few miles in the saddle. For food I dramatically reduced the fats in my diet, especially 'bad' fats, and reduced red meat. Most of the fats that I consume now are from olive oil and/or avocado, but my diet is definitely heavy on carbs. Pastas for dinner, cereals for breakfast.
My Dr now is saying to move away from the carbs and is telling me that fats aren't as evil as what I was told 12 years ago.
My biggest issue for heart health is family history. No male in my family as far back as we can tell has gotten past age 55 without heart issues. My event came at age 44.

Gotta agree with the above. My wife and I eat healthier than everyone we know and probably healthier than 96% of Americans. I have hereditary heart problems (my dad had 4 heart attacks and my mother had 2). In April my cardiologist decided to do some tests which led to a heart cath. The doc put a stent in the mid-LAD artery. Now I can ride like the wind. So eating right and exercising is good but won't necessarily ward off health problems.
We go for the low to moderate carb, moderate fat diet.

FYI: never had high cholesterol (it's usually around 145-160) or high BP (it's usually between 105/55 and 120/76).
