New rider finally crossing a threshold

I see everyone with these big miles and I am struggling to get in five or ten miles a day. However, I did cross over a thousand miles since my start back to riding. And I feel great.

Hey, congratulations. One tip - start counting in Kilometres - they add up much faster! Seriously though, it is one mile/kilometre at a time for any of us. Enjoy the ones you get in.

Well done!

I do am getting back into cycling after a 17 year break. I feel good about my rides until I see what others do. I keep having to remind myself that it takes time and every minute in the saddle is a good one and better than sitting on my bum in front of this computer.

For me, finding the time to squeeze in a 10 mile ride is a good day, and there are many days with no riding at all, so don't feel bad.
If you are getting 5 to 10 miles most days, you are getting far more exercise than the average population.

Well done regarding your 1,000 miles. Individual ride distances will increase with time on the saddle. Riding with a group can help the miles roll by without even realizing the increase.

You're doing it right, just keep on keeping on.

I sometimes have to remind myself that I can't wait until I get into shape to start getting into shape. You can only start at wherever you happen to be at this very minute.

If you are finding riding the bike to be a rewarding experience, the miles just seem to accumulate.

Time is indeed the most precious commodity. I look forward to each and every ride. Shucks, I drive down a road I've never been on and look to see how wide the shoulder is or how safe it may be for a future ride.

After I get in the first three or four miles, I find myself hitting a stride and then it makes it all worth it. My longest ride to date is about 34 miles and that was pulling a trailer full of camping gear. This weekend, I am looking forward to my first metric century along USBRS 76 in Williamsburg, Va.

First 1K took about a year and a half to achieve. Maybe the next will come in under a year. Thanks everyone.

Enjoy your accomplishments. Anyone can be disappointed if they compare themselves to a pro or a 20yr old triathlete but there's no point in folks over 50 doing anything but enjoying the ride and, if you feel like it, setting goals or keeping an eye on your progress. A lot of us are "getting back into shape" and quickly realize that shape will never be 20yr old shape. It's just how it is. When I got back on my bike my first ride was less than 2mi and I returned in pain. I remember 10mi as a big celegration. So congrats on your 1000 mi. This year my goal is 4000+mi. I've got nearly 2500 in so far this year which isn't bad for an Alaskan with a short riding season.

Nice job, OP.

Who cares what others are doing...if YOU are happy, that's what matters.

Congtats on 1k cummulative total, as everyone else says, dont worry about comparing yourself to others just ride and enjoy.

My average daily is a couple 14-16 mile loops I catch on my lunch, I try to squeez a long one in on weekends, not usually to successful.

I ride for me, no one else.
