Elliptical Trainer Discovery
I haven't been on an elliptical trainer in years. Once I discovered the joys of cycling it went out of my thought pattern. But, when I strained the posterior ligaments and tendons on one leg and foot and couldn't ride I was desperate for something cardio and sweaty. Enter the elliptical trainer.
I've had a few sessions now and can feel my feet and ankles getting stronger. I am more stable because of that. At the same time, depending on just how a person strides, cycling motion can be approximated. Us older folks sometimes need something that is totally controllable and can help us grow at our own pace. At this point I think I may have found it for me. |
You could always try a stepper bike.

I think I've seen stepper bikes. Not interested.
Yep, I used to walk like that too. Now I am trying to regain strength in the anterior portions of my feet. Requires more leverage than I can manage. Elliptical trainer lets me use as much or as little leverage as appropriate and has no minimum needed just to move. |
Glad to hear you've had good luck with it. You may want to consider adding a Bosu balance trainer or a mini-trampoline with handrail. My wife had both of her knees scoped, needed to build overall leg strength and found both of those very helpful used in conjunction with our elliptical.

Always get one behind a hot babe. It puts steam in your stride.

Years ago after knee surgery I used a Nordic Trac during recuperation and recovery...but not for long. Prolly a bit more hazardous than using an elliptical.

You can get the elliptical and the bike all in one...I've seen one around these parts a few times. It's a double take the first time you see one.

When I was recovering from my broken pelvis I couldn't put any weight on one leg though so I had to use the stationary recumbent... boy THAT'S embarrassing; except I made sure my crutches were in clear view so no one would mistake me for a tosser. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-W...0329141051.jpg |

Oh, a decision quandry...the one's with TV are on the front row on a balcony. The one's without are in the back. Hmmmm, that guru of medicine and health, Dr. Oz or hot babes......?
The image of someone, especially one of our maturity drooling over someone else's behind is truly unappealing, to say the least. As for Dr. Oz, well.... I promise not to troll again, for at least a good long while. :) |
I drool regardless of the presence or absence of a backside...
