Look What Followed Me Home **vintage warning**

I've had my eye on this bike for over two years....

Campy
531c (full) Pro Series frame
Modolo
Superbe
Full dealership custom build in the tradition of oldschool Trek. The frame appears to be '85 but the lettering, paint and "c" Pro Series frame could be '86. This will be my "guest bike" and for going around town. Frame is a 19 and I take a 21 but I wont mind a bit.

I don't care what the metallurgists say, there has never been a better frame material than Reynolds 531.

Always loved old Treks. Built one for a former love, in 1976. 531 is wonderful stuff!

Nice pick up. I've been hoping a Trek of that vintage (or in that general time frame) would show up on my radar. It is a class ride.

Thanx, guys. Cant wait to spiff it up. Tires are new, still have the mold strip down the middle. Bar tape and cables like new....just clean and tune. I'm still mildly stunned it is sitting in my playroom.

Interesting, our LBS has a similar Trek in the used bikes right now, I think a trip there is in order after work tomorrow. Nice score Reverend.

Very very nice Trek.

Hope it isn't too small for you. might hafta get a Nitto Technomic stem and MTB or Kalloy extra tall seatpost for it to get the fit you want.

I dealed a Moto Super Mirage last year that was a 19" and didnt mind it, me being 5'9". Here is a shot with the bike still sporting some cobweb patina. Seat tilt not set yet but stem and seat post are just about perfect.

How do you have your eyes on a bike for two years ... only then to have it follow you home? Were you waiting for the moment that no one was looking to call it's name and hope it would come?

Nice bike ... I keep looking for a similar Cannondale treasure.

We live in a small town community, I work in juvenile probate. It was 2yrs ago I went to the home and through conversation learned of this bike being stored. I told the teen's mom that if she ever wanted to sell, please call me. Everytime I'd drive by the house I would think of it. Then after 2yrs I get another call to visit the home. Mom had a victorious bout with cancer and before I left she wheels the bike out with a smile. She remembered her promise. I asked her if she was sure if she wanted to sell. She said yes. I said name your price. She said 100.00 and I asked again if she was sure. She said yes. I just happened to have the money and right to the dime. I carefully placed it in my vehicle and terribly distracted until I got home.

You don't suppose there was some divine intervention here, do you?

I'd have torn the pocket of my khakis off getting the wallet out and ripping the money out. I can also relate to the distraction on the way home.

The real kicker in this, I havent had this type of assignment for quite some time and was called in to complete it because I was the only one not on vacation. I took the call out of a sense of duty and that put this home on my weekend route. Intervention? Absolutely and no other reasonable explanation.

Take care, brother.

Oh and when I said to the dime I mean that literally. Checking my pocket I went over to my jeep where my wife was sitting and asked her if she caught what was going on. Sh was already asking me how much I had. We counted 98.00 in bills and she dug into her change pocket and pulled out the last dime...100clams on the barrel head. The lady was laughing and insisted I call her to let her know what I thought of the bike after cleanup. This is the only bike I have bought used that has new tires, tape, trip computer, cables....only needs some polishing.

Awesome story, awesome bike. Hearing the kind of work you do, I bet that particular home visit was far more positive than most. Well deserved intervention!

Thanx, Mike. My job often involves a sector of a subculture that can be a test of love and patience in which I sometimes lack.

This was a very encouraging stop even before the bike deal messed me up for the day.
