61st Birthday Ride
1 Attachment(s)
After a couple of years of cold weather and/or rain, I managed to skip work and ride my age on my birthday this year. There's a lot to be said for riding your age on your actual birthday as opposed to a day in the vicinity of the big day. It wasn't a fast ride, but not bad for the elevations and the fact that I was just enjoying a last minute day off and beautiful riding weather.
I planned my route pretty well with mostly rolling hills, great views, but not the most difficult route I could have taken in my area. I wish I could have quit at exactly 61 miles as the last .44 was a real bit ... er, I mean, quite difficult. Actually, I do those last climbs to my home so often that it's auto pilot and not a chore at all. In fact, on a beautiful day, at the end of a perfect ride, it was a fun way to end up. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=406704 (click on chart) I hadn't planned on including the climb in the middle, but a couple of friends decided to join me at their lunch break so I timed my ride and planned the route to meet them and we did that part together. It was a great addition to the ride for the companionship, the views, and the fast descent! I like solo rides, but to have a little company was nice. |

Nice. :thumb: I've done the ride my age thing on my last two birthdays, and you're right. doing it on the actual day is special.
My rides didn't involve any climbing though, so I have to tip my hat to ya on that. My 61st is coming up in November, but I'm not committing to a repeat. Can't ever count on the weather here that time of year, although my work calender leaves that date open, so the possibility is there. |
Well done and happy birthday!

Happy Birthday and congratulations on the ride.

That is not a bad average speed at all, given the three climbs. Congrats on the strong finish.

Nice!

That's a fairly healthy birthday ride with all that climbing. Congratulations on the ride and another year on two wheels.

I'll be doing a 60 mile birthday ride next Friday the 26th. Did it last year on the following Saturday, but this year being a decade birthday I decided to take a personal holiday from work and ride on the day. Same route as last year, almost dead flat (It's south Florida...there are no hills here) and the actual mileage should come in around 63 or so for the mornings ride.

Nicely done. Those look like pretty impressive stats and inspiring stuff for those of us a couple years younger.
