I still have the electric train, O scale, I think. It's still runs perfectly and is in mint condition. I got it for Christmas when I was 4 years old. It will be 52 years old next month.

Not a toy but something I enjoyed a lot as a kid was the 10 volume set of Arthur Mee's Children's Encyclopaedia. (Not sure if it was sold in the U.S.). My parents paid a lot in instalments for it in the 50's and it gave me great interest in science, geography and history, when I wasn't outdoors with my friends, getting into trouble.

I still have it, a bit dog-eared, and it's still fun to dig into on occasions.

A hand wood plane that came with several other hand tools on a wooden tool box my dad made for me when I was 8 years old. It is still in use, and sits in my plane box with a bunch of youngsters?

I also still have the complete set of well used mechanics tools that my parents gave me for graduation. Only 1 socket is missing!

Oh yah, my 16 GA Ithaca model 37 pump shotgun. My 13th Christmas .

I had an Ithaca 20 GA pump in the early sixties. Sweet shotgun, I wish I still owned it. My dad sold it and gave me a 20 GA Browning five shot semi automatic with a vented barrel. Super nice shotgun, but I liked that old used $20.00 Ithaca better. By the way, a new Belgium made Browning was $125.00 back then.

Well, let's see...

- my Cub Scout folding pen knife from the mid-60s
- my Big Bang carbide cannon, model 60mm from mid-60s
- my first shotgun, a Stevens #9400 20 ga lever-break action single shot, ca 1968 or so
- my first "big" shotgun, a Stevens 311 12 ga double barrel, early teens, ca 1971 or so

Only the cannon is a toy, the rest are tools, though.

I kept all my small scale slot cars, both the 1/72nd scale (advertised at the time as "HO" even though they weren't) and the 1/64th scale that came afterward. The collection is 600+ cars now . . .

Still working on a custom track I have in the garage but, honestly, my cycling has so taken over my life I haven't worked on it for a couple of years (since the last crash that kept me off the bike for while!). Hopefully I'll finish it before I retire!

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=418424This is the track in Derbyshire, U.K. in the Rolls Royce Sports Hall; raced here on Team USA several times (four victories over the years). It's a 24 hour race on a replica of the Le Mans track.
http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=418425http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=418426A couple of photos of the Katz-Spa Ring, a track owned by a friend of mine in Escondido. I've only done relatively short races on this one, though they do hold a 24 hour race every year.

Bought one like this in I think 1957, the only thing I have from my youth.

I had a single shot Stevens 12 ga. It was my uncle's ***. He hadn't used it in years, and was hanging in the rafters of his woodshed, a solid block of rust.
I was 15, and had just gotten my *** license. I tore it down and completely cleaned and re-blued it. Shot a lot of ducks and rabbits with that ***.
Edit to add. Funny how you can say ass but can't say ***.:notamused:

I have a set of toy Pocketools wrenches from Marx. They are small and light weight, but still real wrench sizes.

Imabmwnut 11-23-14 05:32 PM

My favorite toys were Lincoln logs and matches.....So.......

Being a youngster in Nazi occupied Belgium during WW2 we collected shrapnel . . . yeah I know . . .
the stuff used to rain down during bombardments and flak being shot up at the allied bombers.
Toys? What toys?! We were too busy begging/stealing to survive and stay alive.

It's funny you mentioned the old Lesney Matchbox cars. In the summer of 2000 I discovered eBay and recreated my collection. It took about two months, and I was so happy to have my old friends back. That lasted about a month. They're in a box somewhere in my attic.

a couple years ago I found a reasonably priced Major Matt Mason, so he's at my office watching over me as I work. For Christmas one year my wife found a stuffed Gentle Ben for me, but the voice boxes are hard to come by. The stuff I kept is still in my parents' attic. Just a bunch of board games.

And my white 1974 AMF Scorcher 24" 10-speed bike is still in my father's barn, waiting for me to restore it. I can't ride it but my wife probably could.

Oh I loved major mat mason! I even had the alien in my collection!

Biker395 11-26-14 11:44 AM

Nothing. :(

I did keep some stuff though. My Dad gave me a 6" slide rule when I was a little kid, and I still treasure that.

The one toy I wish I kept was the "Girder and Panel Building Set." I played with that for hours.

I still have my Meccano sets as well, They great thing about it was you could make yourself all kinds of toys, and when you were tired of them, you could make something else

I kept my early 1960s Lego blocks and my late 1950s Erector sets, which I shared with my sons when they were growing up. We added Lego pirate ships, Duplo blocks, and a Brio train set. The first grandson is due in early April, and his father, his uncle, and I are ready for him. :)

surfjimc 11-26-14 02:23 PM

I don't have any of the toys from my youth, but I still have a couple of boxes of 8-track tapes from my high school days. One day I'll set up an older classic car with the old stereo so I can play them.

Still have Lincoln Logs and a big red Tonka Toy semi-truck. Saved by mother. Might be worth selling if I live another 50+ years.
And the Olds trumpet I played in high school. Saved by me. Likely to be donated as soon as soon as I get around to it.

All my sons' Legos are in the attic.

My grandson has a new set of Lincoln Logs. It's so nice to see some good old fashion toys still being sold to compete with today's digital onslaught.
