Hello all,
I just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I'm 59 and live in Kirkland, Wa. Born and raised in Fort Worth.
I just retired and quickly tired of going for long walks with the dogs. A friend of mine recently bought a "flat foot" style bike after two hip replacements (he's only 55!) and he and his wife started riding and that got my interest up. I've got a bad back and neck and haven't been able to ride in 40 years. My wife is younger than me and was an avid biker when we met. She gave it up because I couldn't keep up with her. So, I recently started reading up on bikes that I might be able to ride. We finally decided on a pair of Electra Townie Balloon 8is. We ordered them last Friday and hope to have them by this weekend. REALLY looking forward to getting out on the trails again! We have a lot of great places for riding around here.
I belong to a couple of guitar forums and know pictures are required, but I don't have the bikes yet. So, here's some catalog shots....
Regards,
Rick

Welcome and enjoy the bikes when they arrive. Just remember that it takes a little time to get comfortable.

Welcome. That style of bike is a fine choice for folks with flexibility problems in the hips or neck.

I hope I can retire at 59.

Welcome to the forum!

I spent most of my life living in and around Seattle, and I did a stint in Kirkland. That would be a perfect bike to cruise up and down the lakefront on.

Nine years late to the party in Fifty Plus! but Welcome now!

Hmmmm......I could get jealous of the lack of maintenance/adjustment needs you'll have with internally geared hubs with roller brakes.

Welcome to the 50+ forum. We'll be looking for the pics of the new road bikes you decide to get in a few months. ;)

Should we tell him about the pie?

Welcome. Enjoy the new rides! I met a young 82yr old fellow while I was fixing a flat the other day. He made some comment about being too old to ride. I told him that my dad started riding again last year at the age of 83 after not having ridden for 30+ years. Never too late to start again.

Thanks for the warm welcome all! I appreciate it. Good to see fellow Texans and Washatonians here! I received my wife's fenders today and took them the the shop I bought the bikes from. The shop said our bikes should arrive tomorrow and we'll have them by the weekend. Of course it going to rain here in Seattle, but we've bought rain gear. We're both excited to get back on the road! I'll post pics as soon as I pick them up!

Welcome to the club. Great choice on the bikes I would say.
If the first ride makes you sore and weary, don't be discouraged. It quickly improves.
And if you have questions regarding the IGH hubs, help is always available on these forums.
