thoughts, prayers, positive energy for an injured friend
When I was judging the F.I.R.S.T. Lego League robotics competition yesterday, I chatted briefly with the daughter of one of my cycling friends. In the morning she told me she was planning to judge both Saturday and Sunday, and that her parents would be joining her Sunday as judges. During the afternoon she told me her dad, one of our best robotics judges for the past several years, would not be coming after all, because he was in the Scripps La Jolla trauma center after being struck by a car while bicycling on a local street. He is reportedly scheduled for back surgery on Monday, and I plan to see if he can have visitors early in the week. I have no other details at the moment ... .
Dan is not one of our BF 50+ers, but he is qualified by age and a passion for cycling, and I consider him a valued friend. (I also told them I have voted for his wife every time she has run for a school board position.)

John, he is on my prayer list until you tell us he is back, and good to go. I'll ask for strength for him, his family and for you as his friend/colleague. Sorry that he and all his family has to face this trial of character. Keep us posted on how he fares in the surgery, please.
