Ok... Tell the truth!
Have you ever been tempted to put some baseball cards in your spokes just to recall how they sounded when you were a kid? I would probably be rich now if I had saved and sold all of those old BB cards that I destroyed in my bike spokes. Good ole days.
|
Truthfully? No. Not once. Not even when I was a little kid.

Every. Time. I. Ride.

I haven't thought about that since I was a kid. But now that you bring it up . . .

Nope. That's my final answer.

Hmmmm...If I knew nobody would see or hear me...

No. I couldn't bring myself to destroy the cards as a kid. I just waited till i was 15 and bought a motorcycle instead.
There are many card in spoke jokes in our bike club. No one ever goes through with it though. |

Oh Gawd ... I wanted one of those too!
We liked to put balloons against the spokes, sounded more like a Harley. |
Balloons tied off on the rear stays were much better. Sounded loud like a Harley of sorts. But they soon popped.
Baseball cards? I collect them and cant bring myself to trash one. |
But I had no idea they would be worth anything later. I would buy a pack of baseball cards with a piece of gum in it for .05 just to use the cards in the bike spokes.
|
I never thought about using baseball cards, but I have stuck my legs out and gone down a hill going "WEEEEEEEEEE."
|
Just do it, it will make you a better man... or woman, as the case may be.
|
Did I attach baseball cards to my bike as a kid? Oh yeah, many times. Do I ever think about that now? Many times. Do I want to try it now just to reminisce? Nope, not even maybe. I don't need any additional drag when I ride.
|
My friends and I all did it in the '50's, but we used playing cards - stiffer than baseball cards.

Anybody else remember the bolt on (screw on) wheel driven sirens ****************************** Gosh they were cool, and loud!
|
OK... so now and again, friends and I put those beads in our spokes and tie streamers to the handlbars, just to be silly. Usually when we do an event ride...
Recently a friend and I have gotten into night riding mountain trails... we don't do crazy stuff... we just act like two little kids being naughty and have a blast. Last night the trail was covered with toads and each time one jump, we screamed! Yes I am 63 going on 12....:( |

Yes I am 63 going on 12....:( It wasn't long before my life in the summer months evolved into doing chores, errands, little jobs around the neighborhood for spending money, and of course many hours of riding my bicycle. Before long I realized this was the same lifestyle I had when I was 8 years old. I almost feel like I wasted over half a century (and most of my life) doing all that other (responsible) stuff. |

I like bringing up things I did as a kid and seeing if anyone else has done something similar. Just makes for a lighter day. Sounds like you DO have a blast. Just because you get old, doesn't mean you have to grow up. :) |
I did as a kid but haven't thought about it as an adult. However.....
....I accidentally forgot my helmet a couple of months ago and continued to ride that day without it. Have to tell you it felt great! I rode a LOT as a kid and we did all kinds of crazy stuff. I never hit my head nor did I know anyone who did. I'm not recommending anyone not ride with a helmet...but it's a wonder we made it to adulthood. :) Oh, and I also talk to farm animals when I ride by. Guess I'm regressing. :) |
Using baseball cards? Never saw any when I was a kid. Baseball is not very popular in Canada. We used cigarette packages.
