Or maybe the OP and subscribers of this thread would be interested too, since we all seem to be mileage junkies ("Hi...my name is Jim, and I'm a cycling mileage junkie. It got so bad that I even rode in the Winter...I had to hide it from my co-workers and family...")

Here ya go:
Cycle America / Pedal the Peaks - Bicycle Tours and Events
You can jump in and out of the tour at the beginning/end of any of the 9 stages. I did stage 1, then 2+3, 4, then 5.
They typically house you at junior high or high schools in small towns. Most of the time, you're given the option of sleeping in the gym (which has bathroom and shower access) or in your own tent outside. You can also arrange for hotels along the way if you prefer (I typically slept in the gym, as did most people).
The route is GREAT. They've been at this for a long time and really have the planning down. The food varied from good to fantastic. We got "fantastic" on the occasions that the locals from one of the small towns fed us. I still remember the pan-friend chicken that some Native American sisters made us in Interior, SD or the home made desserts made for us in Thompson Falls. The ladies of the town were competing with one another to see who made the best pie. Pretty sweet, eh?
Jumping in and out along the way is not unusual ... only about half of the riders at any given point do the full monty all the way across at one time. They also have arrangements where if you volunteer to help with the ride (routing, making food, mechanic), you can do the ride free and ride on alternating days when you're not working.
The only bummer? They don't do it every year ... they do it every other year ... and the next one will be in 2016.
I cannot recommend them highly enough. It had a wonderful time with these folks. I'm still in contact with some of the other riders, many years after meeting them.

Hopefully tonight I will create a spreadsheet with my 2014 miles from Strava. I did download csv from Garmin Connect that I imported into an Access database, but the date format is not easily used for a query.
on the subject of touring, I would like to do some after I retire. Not sure I would want to ride across the country, but 1 or 2 week tours sound interesting.

A lot of inspiring info here for sure. Didn't start seriously tracking miles until June last year. Based on what I recorded and the time I had spent biking to that point I'd say I did at least 3000 mi, I didn't start tracking the elevation until I got my Garmin in Aug, so not sure about that stat. I'd like to get 5000 miles or so in 2015, but I have to also get in swimming and running.

I wasn't sure I wanted to total my mileage up for '14. A nagging injury (requiring surgery twice) kept me from riding much, and I'm still recovering from it. But curiosity got the better of me: I did the calculation. A grand total of 440 miles for the year on my garmin. Hoping for a more productive and healthy 2015, and the same to all of you.

These days I don't bother putting the Garmin on the bike for recreational riding, I use it only for HR when I'm actually training, as opposed to just riding around. As a result I no longer have any accurate idea of annual mileages. I do use it when on tour, though, largely because some acquaintances like me to upload the route data so they can see where I've been.
It's been a pretty modest year by my usual standards, I've probably averaged less than eight hours a week on the bike. So, what, 6000 miles or so? Just a guess.

I have been tracking my cycling miles for years, and running, walking, etc. I find it motivating. I rode my highest total annual miles (9,304) in 2014 and I also turned 60. Nearly half of my miles were commuting. We had a ton of rain in 2014 that suppressed my commuting, and I easily could have topped 10,000 miles if we had nicer weather. I would like to top 10K miles in a year but I'm not obsessed with it.

After nearly ten years off the bike, I rode 2130 miles in 2015. I'm trying to talk a couple of friends into a ride from the Mexican border to the Canadian one. I'm a teacher, so I can take the time off over the summer. Anyhow, 2015 will see a trial run and my first cross-country ride: Wichita Falls, TX to Wichita, KS. We'll see how that goes.

2,500 miles in 2014, my lowest total in years but had my colon completely removed traditional style which means a foot long scar for the rest of my life. Still was able to come back and even did a 70 miles by going to the Georgia border.
My goal is to do one good 4-5 day tour.... Probably The paved trail from Georgia to Alabama and back..... Either that or the C&O/GAP trail to Pittsburgh.

I've settled in on 5000-7000 miles per year, mostly commuting so I don't track it precisely. Mileage milestones don't motivate me any more as much as how often I get out for a good ride, and perhaps achieve some improvement in various metrics.

~3500 miles on the tandem in 2014. About another 1000 on my rollers. I might have ridden one of my singles on the road once.

I was thinking I might want to take at least 6 weeks so I can do it at a pace where I don't have to worry about schedules. In order to do 6 weeks or more I'd probably need to retired from my full time job. I guess I could probably get away with doing the 4 week blast across the US but that just feels more like work than play. I'll have to check out what you've been doing.

If I get to count Nov, Dec on the trainer in the basement - 1900 miles. I just started in July 2014. I'll do better in 2015.

That's easy. My mileage was "0" because I decided to take a year off and gain 25 lbs.
But 2015 will be different. Not sure what my mileage goal is (1,000 miles?) but I plan on participating in at least 2 organized rides.

Only 2450 last year. Late Spring so did no serious riding for a good part of the season.
Had hoped for at least 2500 but winter shut me out.
Will do better this year.

2014: 5089.3 miles, 210177 ft of climb.
2013: 5127.8 miles, 207744 ft of climb.
I use my own spread sheet for calculating miles and climb from each Garmin track, and a separate spread sheet to add them all up for the year. I also upload the tracks to RidewithGPS.com since I like playing with the interactive features. We always agree bang on for the mileage, but can differ with each other and with Garmin by several 100 feet either way.
I try to ride every day, even if it's only a short ride (4-7 miles) around the neighborhood. For the short rides, I don't bother with the GPS and just use the mileage recorded by my cycle computer. So short rides are entered with 0 climb.
In 2014, I did rides on 309 days, 152 with the GPS recording climb and 157 short rides with no record of climb.

3702 miles in 2014, my first full year of riding (turned 65 in Nov). Was aiming for 4K but took a month off in Sep to rest a sore right leg. If all goes well in 2015 would like to hit that 4000 mile target....not getting any younger...
