A Janurary ride?
Went out today for my 17 mile ride. 55F, the new thermal tights were awesome, the jersey fit loose and was not as warm. Maybe something else under it? I can't EVERY remember riding in January, but I have now.
Here to hoping for a great 2015 on two wheels!

I find I need a jacket at 55. The cusp of riding with just a jersey is around 60, depending on wind and sun. In January, I need to be chilly the first few miles or I'll be too warm later and the 55 to 65 range is tough to guess how much to wear. It's great to be able to ride in January without having to really dress for winter though.

Was below zero, windy, and snowing in my neck of the woods today. One of the most fun commutes I've had in awhile. FWIW, soft shell jacket with two compression shirts under is plenty warm in the upper body in even these conditions. Gotta worry about the extremities, though. Winter boots, wool socks, wool long underwear, wool gloves under mittens, and balaclava with goggles.....comfy riding in the snow!
Enjoy the cooler weather rides!

We had windchill issues. No ride for me. Looks like a January thaw is an Eskimo's dream at the moment (not that there is anything wrong with that). If it warms, we still have a load of salt to wash off.

At 5F, the snow is squeaky and not very slippery; but in spite of the near-ideal conditions, I'm STILL going to stay inside!

I've found keeping the wind off with a jacket works lots better than adding layers underneath. A windproof jacket keeps the wind away so I can stay warmer. Extra layers simply filter the breeze as it passes through.
At 55F, I'm still in shorts, kneewarmers and a long-sleeve jersey or a short-sleeve one with armwarmers. At 50, though, I need to switch to tights and a jacket.
For me, every workday in January is a January ride. 11F, -12C coming home from work last night. Had the studded tire bike even though the roads were clear and dry. You never know.

Since I coach snowboarding tonight, I drove the car. But here's my January ride selfie (10 miles at -12F):
I'd love to have a 'cold' 55F ride, I haven't see that kinda weather in months! Enjoy the ride!
