Side effects of Cipro for uti

I was taking ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice a day for UTI. I experienced major fatigue and
muscle soreness plus it didn't clear the infection. Now I'm concerned about the lingering effects this
drug may have on my biking. One of the scariest listed side effects is ruptured tendon which
can occur up to 3 months after taking the drug.

What's done is done. You've taken it and now you've stopped. As for delayed side effects, all you can do is wait.

Nothing we can do to change that. On the bright side, I don't think that ruptured tendon is a common side effect, so I wouldn't worry about it (especially since there's nothing you can co).

Meanwhile, good luck clearing the UTI because that is something that you can do something about.

If it's really a bacterial UTI, try drinking a pint of water every 20 minutes for 3 hours. That usually fixes it, at least temporarily. If that doesn't do anything, maybe not a bacterial UTI, especially since the cipro didn't fix it. So that leaves HSV1 or 2, very very common, or something up with the prostate if you have one. Of course there are other possibilities.

Usually a bad idea to read the fine print on the patient insert.

I had to take Cipro a few years back for a UTI. I did not experience the side effects, but my PCP at the time the time did warn
me about them. He was also a cyclist and rode to his office on a regular basis. Having a PCP who is also a cyclist is pure gold.

Interesting that Cipro, a very strong antibiotic, did not kill the damn thing. Definitely calls for a return trip to the doc.
Real cranberry juice, (Not the "cranberry juice cocktail" commonly sold at supermarkets) is known to help. The real
stuff is available at Trader Joe's. Unsweetened, it is definitely "an acquired taste".

Reiterate: Having a PCP who is a cyclist is pure gold.

Thanks for the replies. Yes my PCP is an avid mountain biker. I talked to my twin sister about this and she said cipro didn't do it for her
UTI and she had to switch to ammoxicllin (sp?) which did clear it up.

With a UTI it is always good to have a culture and sensitivity done, it makes it easier to determine the most effective antibiotic.
