Snow...ugh.

Predictions for 3 ft of snow in NYC area and 2-3 ft in my neck of the woods. Good grief I'll be shoveling until May. :(

Biker395 01-25-15 07:52 PM

Damn ... I guess it's the ying/yang thing, but we'd love to have that out here in the west. Can you blow some of that over here?

GlennR 01-25-15 08:08 PM

It's been a easy winter so far. I'm gonna get the MTB ready for going out on Tuesday.

Phloom 01-25-15 09:25 PM

+5 C or 41 F for the week. Snow is melting away. Contemplating riding to work in the morning. Streets are mostly clear but really muddy and wet.

jth1959 01-25-15 09:40 PM

Northern CT here right on the Mass border. Preparing for the worst hoping it moves more east and we get 2-3 inches not 2-3 feet.

fishboy316 01-25-15 09:43 PM

In Annapolis Md we are hoping it stays west! If it moves east we are so screwed!!LOL

Dude...you are so not going to be out on the MTB Tuesday. Unless, you are planning on pedaling through 3 ft of snow.

OldsCOOL 01-26-15 04:47 AM

You folks are going to get whacked.

So far, we have had it easy. Last winter we had 200"+.

Get out while you can!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6za...ature=youtu.be

BlazingPedals 01-26-15 06:34 AM

So far my winter has been slightly colder than average, but with much less snow. The 'storm of the decade' or whatever this one was supposed to be, missed me completely.

OldsCOOL 01-26-15 09:13 AM

Look out!!!

Gee, my 11 hp snow blower can only blow 50 feet!

Blanchje 01-26-15 10:09 AM

I've always liked blizzards as long as the power stays on. Stock up, hunker down, and be safe.

Just filled my moto racing gas can and got the generator started just to make sure it's good to go. Also checked out the three gas fireplaces to make sure their set. Now I'm getting set for being snowed in. Probably spend tomorrow drinking Bushmill's and having sex. Well, unless we lose power and I can't get on the porno sites. :)

I'll be staying home tomorrow too, and it will be one of the nicest days off (in downtown Boston) since the blizzzard of '78, but without power will be a nightmare.

Family duties will keep me off the bike.

Down here, we add eggs to the list, calling such periods French Toast Days.

Back in '78 I was living in Hartford, CT and had a GF living in an A-frame right on Coventry Lake (CT). The Governor announced the roads were going to be closed for two days. I jumped in my '66 Karman Ghia (with the old 6-volt system) drove to the packy and bought a case of Bass Ale. Pointed that VW east on I-84 and drove through the start of the blizzard so I could get snowed in with her. And, the Bass Ale of course. Got snowed in but I have some very fond memories of that storm.

OldsCOOL 01-26-15 11:59 AM

I'll gas up and hit the freeway. Might take me a while but I'll get there.

I'd agree, except that California (well, most of it anyway), really isn't prepared for extended sub-freezing conditions. The soccer moms in the SUVs would be wondering why, if 4WD helps them go, why doesn't it help them stop; half of the other folks would be trying to put chains on the wrong wheels of their 2WD cars - it probably wouldn't matter anyway, since less than an inch of snow would bring traffic in most cities to a crawl, 6 inches and we'd be closing down the whole city. Not to mention that nobody drains their irrigation pipes, and the number of burst pipes would be phenomenal.

Now, if we could get the precipitation (spread out over several weeks please - no need for flooding), I'd certainly appreciate that . . .

Today's weather brought to you by....Rule #9!

Marc

zonatandem 01-26-15 06:00 PM

To beat winter weather we moved to southern Arizona w-a-y back in 1978.
Have not used a snow shovel (or lawnmower) since then!
Have lived in some cold places like Michigan, the Catskills in New York and Korea (40 below zero).
I sympathize, but no thanks!!!

avidone1 01-26-15 06:09 PM

Snow? What's snow?

(avidone1 ducks quickly)

I will not say that its blue skies here, or that its supposed to be this way the whole week here. Nor will post that its warming up some, too. No sir, I won't say those things when so many of you guys are getting snow measured in feet, nope, not going to be that way........

Bill

Roadbikedude 01-26-15 08:04 PM

Yea, that much snow sucks.....if only you had a fatty for your winter training rides.:crash:
