Stack Or Reach?
Hey Folks,
I'm looking at getting a new frame and obviously I'd like to get the set-up as close to my current bike as possible. The problem is I'm having a hard time choosing the right size. I'm torn between two sizes. If I decide to go with the smaller size, the reach would be 4mm shorter than my current ride and the stack height 1.5mm higher. If I went with the bigger size the reach would be 1mm longer but the stack would be 17.5mm higher. I'm leaning more towards the smaller size and maybe adding a longer stem but some extra input from you guys would be appreciated. Thanks :) |
Reach. By which I mean the smaller size. Imo, reach is the most important dimension, having been put, over and over on 54s, based on my height, when due to my short torso, I needed a 52.
In general, Lengthening a stem is less likely to impact handling negatively. Ymmv, but that's my experience. |
Are you sure about those numbers? Only 5 mm change in reach between the sizes, but 16 mm change in stack?
My feeling is, 5 mm change in reach is nothing much, easily compensated with a different stem. 16 mm change in stack could matter more, if you're trying to slam the stem (position the stem as low as possible). |

Anyway, this is the geometry chart and I'm torn between the 52 en 54. My current set-up is stack: 534.5mm (so 2.5mm and 18.5mm differenece instead of the reported 1.5mm and 17.5mm) and reach: 388. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=497959 |
