Front fork replacement - size?
Have a TREK 4900 with disc brakes - got it somewhere between 2004 - 2006. Frame is 22.5". The front fork completely cracked in half so I'd like to simply get a new fork, replace it, and be back to normal. The fork is a Judy TT Rockshox - the steerer tube attached to the fork has a UPC sticker on it with a 6 digit number - 210798. The fork itself has a smaller UPC sticker on it with the number 0111010416.
From the top of the steerer tube to where it meets the top of the fork where there is a black plastic "ring" measures 10.5" - if I measure from the top of the steerer tube to the "underside" of the top of the fork the measurement is 11.5". If I measure from the top of one side of the fork, not including some kind of black nut on the top, to the bottom of the same side of the fork where it would attach to the front wheel the length is 17.5". Steerer tube diameter is 1.125". I took the bike to a local shop, which actually has a good reputation, and they told me ~$400 to replace it - I walked out. So I'm trying to replace it on my own - searching through eBay, Craigslist, etc. and seemingly can't find a match. Can someone suggest where I might have luck looking for a replacement part that would fit? Is there a newer version of that same fork or just a new fork I could buy that has the same measurements that would fit and if so where could I find one? Seems to be a lot of forks out there where the steerer tube is only ~7.5" long. Maybe I'm not looking at the measurements right on my fork? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx. |
There are a large price range for Suspension forks.. @ $400 they start to get better
Rockshox brand is now owned by SRAM Corp. there are cheaper ones they you will find on $400 bikes Plus there is the replacement fork without suspension But made long enough Blades , to not drop the head tube angle and change the steering feel . Needing Cheap and reliable I'd Go with The latter Look them up at like Nashbar. Only thing is long enough steerer tube , Buy a lot of spacers , dont cut it too short too soon. ./. |
