What in general needs to be adjusted for a frame on the 'short side' ?

Hello,

I would like to fit a 2015 Salsa Warbird 55cm. From the Salsa website fit link the 55cm has a recommendation for riders 165-175cm. I am 179cm

I will try to set up a fitting appointment but I was wondering, in general, what are the most obvious adjustments that would be made in this particular case?

I'm guessing a longer stem and shifting the bicycle seat rails back by an inch ;-) ?

seat post and stem may need to change.. IDK what your riding goal is .. Define That.

Longer stem, more seatpost exposed. Possibly needing a seatpost with more setback. Possibly needing a longer-armed crankset.

Riding goal in order of significance:
1.to replace my current commuter bike to go 30 miles per trip, 1500+ miles per year on the road. (The bike it will replace will go to my son who is living away at college)

2. Short trip road tourer with bike packs (weekends)... 200-500 miles per year

3. Swapping tires and going gravel touring 100-200 miles per year plus lucky vacation from Pittsburgh to DC

The current stem is 90 mm.

Going to 110 be a good guess to start?

Longer armed cranks etc. Nice. I have not thought of that.

55cm road frame sounds right for your height. Maybe set the saddle and ride it some before changing anything.

Fingers crossed...I am secretly hoping for a lucky star 😜👍

(the bike is not in my possession yet.)

I've had some bikes that are officially too small for me and didn't need any adjustments other than saddle height. I don't know why that is, because others have needed more such as change in stem dimensions. So try it before you make any changes.
