Reach

I want to change my frame. The new frame that I'm looking at has 8mm more reach. Is this significant? My current (road) bar has 104mm reach. If I swap out the bar for one with less reach and leave the stem, will it effectively give me similar reach?

The answer is maybe. Purely for reach, you also need to consider the stack height at the headtube, and the head tube angle to truly know how the location of the bars will change. Additionally, depending on the seat tube angles, your saddle may end up further away than it was, as there is *usually* a change in that direction from the bb as well as a frame size increases. there are geometry comparison tools (one is bikegeo.net ) that can be used to understand the changes between frames.
