Road bike to TT rig

What do you guys think of this setup. I've got very little experience with aerobars.

I don't know, I'm not the one riding it. What do you think of it? If it feels good and solves what you want to solve, then that's what matters.

If you have some pains or other issues then maybe we can figure out what to tweak or change.

My shoulders were feeling strained after about 5 minutes and the shifters were in the way of my hands.

I've never used aerobars and I feel they are only useful on a TT bike that is actually being ridden in a time trial. Not for a luxurious ride on the road or trainer and certainly not for a long ride.

You mention your shoulders feeling strained and that is pretty much what I'd expect since every movement you make on the trainer gets transferred directly to your shoulders since you've eliminated the shock absorbing bend of the elbows as a mid point between you and the bars.

I'd imagine that on the road they'd be even worse. Some people like them. And there are probably ways to mitigate what you are feeling. Maybe you just need to get use to them. The body does gripe about new things you do to it until you show it that it has to either get use to it and shut up or it screams at you so loud you can't ignore it and you give in.
