Ran out of seat post
So I just recenlty (3 weeks ago) back into cycling after many years. I purchased a cannondale Quick 6 XL. I am 6'3" and the sales person at my LBS spent time putting me on different bikes and riding them for fit. I have since found that in fine tuning the seat I am now 2" past the max height on the seat tube and I'm guesssing I need to raise the post a little more. The seat post is 350mm and the largest I have seen for a new seat post is 450mm is this enough? Should I be after the LBS for a poor fitting? Or is it just me?

That bike is too small for you even though it is a xl. or you desire a unconventional fit.
a longer seatpost will help with your leg extension but hows your reach?? if you ride with your post above the minimum insertion line you have a very real possibility of destroying your new frame. do not ride it like that. Im only 5'10 so I dont know what the options are for taller riders but most likely a longer post is not the correct answer. If you can return the bike and start over you should. You are now more knowledgeable as to how you want your bike to fit and feel. gluck. |
Hmm guess I will make a trip back to the shop. I'm surprised it could actually damafge the frame! I must be right in between though for size as I can barely clear the cross tube on the stand over.
Thank you for the feedback |
Are you sure your seat height is correct?

Yup, it's shop time again. While a longer post would give you your desired leg extension (you must be REALLY long-legged!), I'm also concerned about the fit of the rest of the bike. (NOTE: Thomson makes a 410mm seatpost....)
Giant makes larger framed bikes; see if your shop deals with them, as well. |
I'll take it back but it's been a few weeks I have feeling I'm going to have to make it work there is a 450mm seat post at the Canadian version of REI (MEC). I do have some leg length but I'm a bit tee'd that the LBS didn't see any issue.

Wait a minute...how can you barely have standover clearance yet require more than a 350mm seat post? Something is not right...
...maybe you've got really short cranks? I'd think you'd want at least 175mm crank arms, btw. |
I went to the shop today and they changed my bike from an XL to Jumbo. Huge difference.

nice, thats a lbs you should be happy with. Its been a few weeks since your initial purchase right?
|
Yes it was over 3 weeks. They really came through.
