Road Bike Sizing

Hey guys,

I've been on and off a few road bikes of different brands and (48 cm, 50 cm, 51 cm).

I understand the general feel of a road bike, but unsure if I'm riding the ride size.

I went on to Competitive Cyclist Bike Fit Calculator online, and provided these measurements (cm):

Inseam: 78.5
Trunk: 62
Forearm: 36.25
Arm: 67
Thigh: 55.5
Lower Leg: 52.5
Sternal Notch: 138
Total Body Height: 170

Got these results:

The Competitive Fit:
Seat Tube Range c–c: 50.8 - 51.3 cm
Seat Tube Range c–t: 52.4 - 52.9 cm
Top Tube Length: 55.9 - 56.3 cm
Stem Length: 11.2 - 11.8 cm
BB–Saddle Position: 72.5 - 74.5 cm
Saddle Handlebar: 53.3 - 53.9 cm
Saddle Setback: 2.7 - 3.1 cm

Are these results fairly accurate for lads out there of similar height and inseam length?

Thanks!

Actually your Competitive Fit numbers don't look too bad. You might want to double-check your body measurements just to make sure (use a capable assistant to double check you), and to try the other fit options on the Competitive Cyclist site. The Competitive fit is for modern racing-type riding. More comfort can usually be had using one of the other two options.

My inseam is a little longer than yours though my height is 168 cm. This could be just a quirk of human variation, or suggest you're measurements to be off. Not that we must match, but it's worth it to check, right?

If you can find a site that gives you frame stack and frame reach, you might use those to double-check what you got from Competitive.
