I am fine with people pulling tricks on Fixed Bikes but they seem a bit sketchy on a skatepark...however is more practical to move around on a fixed than on a BMX with micro gearing:twitchy:

Meh, I doubt the skaters are pleased with more bikes showing up at the park but I guess as long as everyone knows their etiquette, then I'm fine with them being in the park.

it's like watching freestyle bmx in 1982.

kinda cool but if I saw him in my skatepark I'd kick him out and have his bike seized.

That was my first thought too.

Bike's are versatile, but there's something to be said for having the right tool for the job. He's really limited to what he can do on that bike versus a freestyle bike.

The tricks are the same, but the tires are skinnier. Whatever.

The tricks are not the same. As motobeCarnage stated, it's like watching BMX from 1982. No BMXer would be caught dead filming these tricks.

The only thing that has evolved is people's video editing skills.

The way you used to get a video part was to practice really hard, do really hard tricks, then hope a videographer from a video magazine or some team would come and shoot you doing rad tricks...then you waited 3 months to see if you made it in.

Now it's: Go dork around in the parking lot for 30 minutes and edit on iMovie for 2 days and BOOM! You got a video part.

FGFS has definitely taken freestyle down several pegs.

The tires haven't gotten skinnier...fgfs runs mountain bike rims these days. Not to mention velocity made chukkers so if you want to use 700c you can use like 40c+ tires.

Every video I watch of fgfs is usually just; nose pivot, wheelie, 180 to fakie, bunny hop with bar spin, slooooow downs for a 2 second crank grind, peg grind down stair railing (usually with a wipeout/fall), random non cycling whacky and or I'm so crazy antics.

Not hatin', I'm guilty of watching some fgfs videos, but generally the lack of flow/speed that bmx has ruins fgfs for me.

But there cycling and they look like there having a blast so more to them.

since its pretty obvious that this fgfs stuff doesn't get any love around here i almost hate to admit i do get a kick out of it. but the worst part of that video is that it looks like right after the fadeout around 2:00 when he starts jumping that he swapped over to a freewheel...that is lame.

anyway, how about this one for a different take on fg riding?

A fixed gear hub is not a trick multiplier. Just because something is done on a fixed gear doesn't make it better than the same done on a freewheel. More difficult? Yes. Better? No.

Preparing and eating a sandwich while standing on one foot is not gonna make the sandwich taste any better.

Not being able to coast is not gonna make a trick any bigger or a single-track flow any better. In fact, it usually has the opposite result.

There's a guy doing off road on a unicycle, way more interesting than some kids on fixies

That trail looks fun as hell, but I bet I could do it faster on my monocog, the same way those tricks would look better on my BMX.

there's good and bad about it but...trick track frames make me cry.

That about sums it up perfectly.

It seems like just cause he is on a fixie that he doesnt need a helmet... hell even his camera man is wearing a fullface. I think most single track riders would wear a helmet... or maybe he really needs his face seen on video?

Is that a regular bmx style? I'm not into tricking so I guess I wouldn't need it anyways.

In my opinion this stuff sucks. The tricks don't change, like never.

I disagree. Having ridden BMX bikes for several years, I would have to say that I can move around faster in an urban environment on a BMX bike than any other. And you can still achieve high gear ratios with micro drivetrains.

I may not be a fan, but:
if you ride FGFS, awesome you're on a bike;
if you race on the velodrome, awesome you're on a bike;
if you wanna be trendy, awesome you're on a bike;
if you wanna ride a bike you built, awesome you're on a bike.

I like when people are on bikes and could care less why they do it as long as they are happy.

BTW the original video is not a good representation of where fixed freestyle is currently at.
